One thing that I think affects a lot of shooters at the top 28 is depth perception. I’m being fully serious, basically everyone in the state is used to a court where there’s a backboard behind the wall and that’s it. When you get to the top 28, the stadium is going to have a full bowl and seats right behind it, usually with students filling them. Some shooters are able to overcome this regardless, but FG% seems to go down overall at the top 28 especially on jump shots. That's a real good point. Overall shooting has been down for most teams at the tourney. Maybe they'll be better adjusted having already played a game in the arena Yep just like we see in NCAA final four. Last good shooting team we saw in both of those games was Villanova and they were a cheat code.

I hope it’s a good one. Our field goal percentage last night was awful. We’ve got shooters but nothing was falling in. Don’t know if it was nerves or what. But we’ve got to shoot better and be more controlled if we hope to have a chance Saturday. And hats off to French Settlement. They were a very good team. I was very impressed with French Settlement. As well as Winnfield. That was a good game the Duncan kid and I believe the others are named Johnson were just a tad too much. Sopre Jalyn Jackson. Best athlete in the school. Sucks our football coach ran him off. French settlement big man was really good. They slowed us down and played good fundamental basketball.

Gentleman
I was at the Port Allen vs Patterson game. Third row in the middle of all the Patterson fans with my Port Allen gear on. I have been going to Louisiana high school basketball games since 1986 and that was the most thrilling game I have attended. Not the best played, but the most on the edge of my seat exciting. Obviously I have a rooting interest so that helped form my opinion.
Port Allen was extremely fortunate to win that game. They led 2-0 and I think 32-31 for a total of about 30 seconds. They didn't lead the rest of the game. Until when it ultimately matters. I hate the holding of the ball for nearly 8 minutes total, however the Patterson coach was laughing and telling his team not the get close and guard E.J and Isaiah. That's his fault. He knows the rules and he thought that was the best way to play. He really made the mistakes with 2 minutes to go in 4th quarter and they were up by 8. They shot the ball a few times when they did not have to.
That being said E. J Mcquillan had the worst shooting game of his career, however he scored 35 points because he was 24-28 from free throw line. 86%. He just kept attacking him and I could not be prouder of him. (I coached him for 3 years in middle school along with Aries Lewis, J'Isaiah Fernandez and Shemar Morgan) Late in game and OT he knew his shot was off. Kept attacking the basket. Patterson could not stop him from getting to the basket. Because he is a Division 1 NCAA talent. Patterson shot very well in the first half. Guards hit some really tough shots.
Patterson 2 big men had to be around 250 pounds each. 6"4 or 6"5. They Played excellent. They got Aries Lewis in foul trouble in about 3 minutes. I think he played about 14 total minutes before fouling out with 2 points. A terrible game for him. He is prone to foul trouble because he tries to block every shot. Head fakes and the brute strength of Patterson's big men got him. I think he has a good game tomorrow.
Isaiah Howard had 32 points. So 2 players scored 67 of 77 points for Port Allen.
I think Port Allen rebounds and beats Winnfield by double digits.
I will be there cheering on the Pelicans!!

It’s crazy to me the talent that port Allen has that 2 players scored that many. I guess that was how Patterson tried to defend them. Really impressive that even though the kid couldn’t make a shot from the floor he kept driving and sinking his freethrows.

Congrats to Port Allen, better team won. Lewis should have won MVP imo. He played good on both ends. Proud of my Tigers!

Not to rain on Port Allen’s parade but I’ve heard from people who know people that PA’s head coach was pretty rude and was making derogatory comments and remarks to Winnfield’s players before, during and after the game. Even making the comment of “go cry in the tunnel.” If true that’s really sad.

Coach Jackson is a class act intense but a class act . one of Winfield players came over even after they shook hands and u can see a few players and even coaches giving the young man encouragement number #10 I believe it was. Y'all lost let it go and no you can never "rain on port Allen parade" with hearsay.

Exactly and they shook hands right after once all parties realized it was no ill intent.

I saw no poor sportsmanship from either side. Players, coaches or fans. It was a hard fought game for 3 periods and the better team pulled away in the end. We would have needed another poor shooting night from Port Allen or our starting five on the court the entire game to have had a chance. Maybe both. We got neither.
I hate stories like this about poor sportsmanship etc... because it comes off as sour gs. I would have loved a win, but myself and 99.99% of our fans were proud of our boys regardless and aren't sitting around making excuses and whining. Hell of a season and hell of a team, just met up with a team that was better.
Loved the experience and loved seeing that sea of red in the stands. Winnfield travels with the best of them in my opinion.
Congrats to Port Allen

I remember Winnfield in football the year they played John Curtis. I know it had to be hard to watch your undefeated team get beat the way they did. But I didn't hear one Winnfield fan say anything bad. From what I saw of them, their fan base is second to none.

Actually thought we outplayed them the first half. Not many teams in the state could have done that against that particular Curtis team. Lost count of how many of those kids I saw playing on Saturdays and Sundays over the next several years. They were a better team. Just got to take the loss, learn and move on.
