I am going to have a rambling post on teams I have watched this year and their playoff chances.
5A
Walker- I have seen them 5 times this year. If they don't make the top 28 it will be a disappointment in my opinion. I have live in Central since 1985 and this is the best team I have ever seen Walker have. Starting five is very good, and I would argue they have 7 good players. Seniors in Dalton Moore, good shooter, Jalen Perkins, 6"6 player who can hit outside shots, all around player, Darius Hampton, quick guard who can attack the basket. Brian Thomas, 6"5 freshman who I would only take out the game if he has foul trouble, good on both sides of the floor. He may make a few mistakes but this player is really good. Jalen Cook, best player on the team. Point guard who is great at getting to the rim and is an outstanding shooter. Only knock is he is 6"0 and a taller guard would be a difficult matchup for him. He was not big enough in the game against Scotlandville, when Smart would guard him Cook had problems. That being said Scotlandville only beat them by one point and Walker had the shot at the buzzer to win. A big advantage for them is home court. I have long said they have the softest rims in the state and possibly the nation.
Landry Walker- I only saw them twice but they are a tough team. They have two bigs and two good guards. Defending state champs, who easily beat Bonnabel in the title game last year. Was never close. Chargin Bucs are always a threat to win it all. I enjoy watching them, and they may have the best uniforms in the state.
East Ascension- I have seen them twice and they lost both times. It was at Madison Prep tournament and Crescent City and Walker beat them. Both very good teams. I predict 1 or 2 wins for the Spartans in the playoffs. Coach Whittington is a good coach and I have liked him since he was at Donaldsonville. They lost to Catholic of Baton Rouge by 17 and I don't care what the rankings say, Catholic of Baton Rouge is not a good team.
Live Oak and Zachary- These should not even be playoff teams and I would be surprised if they won a game. Neither team is good. Not tyring to be negative, just my opinion.
Denham Springs- Might win one game and that will be it. Average 5A team. There is not a Tasmin Mitchell on this team.
