Lab may take a step back this year but shouldn’t be down long. Have two really outstanding 8th graders. Talked to Coach Adger, said they will compete but not sure he has the guys to do something special just yet.

Not Baton Rouge area but we should be pretty loaded this year. We finished last year ranked #3 and were ranked #1 for a while. We only lost 2 players off of last years team and neither one was a starter. The only issue is 4 of our starters and several that come off the bench are all playing football right now.

Dunham returns Jordan Wright from their state championship team so they definitely should be added as Baton Rouge area contender.
On another note, I just saw the lineup for the Showdown In The Lake tournament here in Lake Charles. These are the participants:
Bossier Woodlawn-SH Red River Peabody Wossman Richwood Rayville North Central Lafayette Christian Hamilton Christian Washington-Marion Lake Charles College Prep Walker Scotlandville Dunham Landry-Walker

That is a great tournament. Is it a bracket format? All those teams are good teams. I will gladly give someone my $10 to watch that. I'll even spend concession $$$$$

12 of the 16 teams were Top 28 semi-finalists last year and 5 of those finished as state champions. I found it quite interesting that so many of the stars on those teams were underclassmen. This should be an interesting tournament.
I would love to see Red River and Rayville match up. After going undefeated through the regular season I thought Rayville would win the 2A championship easily but in the semifinal game they had their hands full with Red River. And if my memory serves me correct Red River has some nice young guns returning.

Scotlandville would beat Catholic like a rented mule if they played this year. Catholic can not handle the pressure defense Scotlandville would play. Catholic has about two players and All of Scotlandville's starting five will play defense that would make Catholic tap out. Walker vs Scotlandville is a different story. Walker can go toe to toe with anyone.
Live Oak is good this year. A set of twins that are both about 6"3. Vince and Brian Bayonne. They are talented players. The point guard Da Da Capling is pretty good too. Live Oak can not hang with Walker or Scotlandville, but are one of the better teams around. Beat St Michael tonight by 29. Live Oak is 8-0. St Michael is not great.
Central has a sopre that may be 7 feet tall. He is at least 6"11. He is not that good, but you don't see that height very often. Broadmoor has a player that is 6"10. I saw him at U High tournament last week.

If you guys get a chance go to the "Sunday Players Showdown in the Lake Basketball Classic" facebook page. It highlights some of the players participating in the upcoming tournament. I will keep you guys up to date on scores with the tournament starting tomorrow.
By the way, I noticed you guys discussing middle school basketball. There is also Jr. Showdown in the Lake tournament for middle schools coming up in January. Southern Lab has been coming since inception. Can't wait to see those big boys ya'll talked about. They struggled in the tournament last year but they were down a few players at the time.

Didn't get a chance to check out any of the games at the old LCB Gym but watched all of them that were played at Hamilton Christian. First Bossier and North Central had a great game going until Bossier smothered the Hurricanes with their full court press. North Central didn't have the players to handle Bossier's length and athleticism but were still impressive. This one was pretty much over by halftime.
Red River mounted a huge comeback to knock Walker off with one second left in the game. They were down by 27 in the second quarter but cut into that lead behind the play of Super Sopre Emareyon McDonald and a post player (didn't get his name) the Wildcats couldn't handle. McDonald looks like a middle school kid but has some serious range and no conscious. I think he had 32 points.
I was shocked by Richwood. I've never seen a Richwood team look so bad. Hamilton Christian had a 44-12 lead with 7:00 left in the 2nd Q before their coach called off their full court press and slowed the game up. I'd be surprised if Richwood gets 5 wins this season.
Lastly, Rayville was as good as advertised. Malik Wilson is a beast. Landry-Walker fought hard but had little chance in this one.

Good stuff, the red river vs walker score definitely stood out immediately. I remember seeing McDonald and that red river team during the top 28, kid does have serious range. How did walker look overall in your opinion? Cook and Thomas at least just really getting back from football, I believe Thomas will pick football for his future. Is there other talent around them? It’s good to hear North Central is pretty good, Bossier I just read has a win over Peabody already. Rayville is loaded and the real deal. Lost in the out of state tourney you mentioned but that’s it. They are also entertaining to watch, love the brand of ball that they play. Let me see if I can get some scores from the Sophie B Wright tourney

Let me see if I can get some scores from the Sophie B Wright tourney Overall, if they have any struggles this season it will be because of their lack of depth. Outside of a 6'4" freshman center that got significant playing time they didn't get any production from their bench. Their starting five is good. As far other talent on the team Trenton Montgomery, a 6'4" senior, made some really good plays last night. He, along with Thomas and Cook, were great and will carry the team. They also have a good 3 point shooter named Keondre Brown. He can really knock it down.

Eager to see how that looks.
