The high school coaching profession seems to be dieing. Don't really see anyone stay somewhere a long time like the old days. I respect these men who do these jobs for little pay and having to listen to parents all the time. Good luck to all of you

You are really warm. Swap a couple of them up and the puzzle will be solved. Wainwright to Grand Lake, Paulk to Sulphur, Richardson to Westlake, Dufresne to Sam Houston, McZeal promoted at Welsh, Reed back to Kinder as an assistant, Oakdale finds someone. Oakdale needs a hungry young coach looking for a challenge. A lot of talent comes through Oakdale but they can never quite string it together other than a 7-3 season here and there.

[b What is amazing is that wainwright's former assistant coach is now the superintendent in Cameron parish. Couple that with the fact that his dad was a very well respected principal in the parish and this hire makes perfect sense. I think he will do a great job there and it will be a coming home of sorts.

That is one if the reason wainwright is going to GL. I think it's a great move for him personally. BUT I'm hearung that Drey Trosclair is very interested in Sulphur. Sulphur's Ath Director is a graduate of AC. Get the picture now? I'm still hoping Paulk doesn't go to Sulphur though.

Richardson to Westlake Wainwright to Grand Lake Reed to Kinder (not sure if it's a HC position, doubt it) hearing Drey Trosclair has interests in Sulphur job as well. He'd be a great fit there. Trosclair isn't certified. He'll either need to enroll in a program to get certified or stay on the private schools

While that is definitely true of the business world, that isn't terribly relevant to the reason why you don't see long tenured coaches.

Good luck to all of you It seems now more than ever the Admin people have so much pressure to cultivate a SPS or "offering" (speaking on public schools specifically) that so much is non relevant-including the male socialization that occurs with fball as a team sport. PE has suffered for high stakes testing. Sometimes admin people, especially in urban areas, are fast tracked. Perhaps they work their way up quickly as academic specialist. But often do not understand the importance of athletics to school overall brand. Many see tackle fball as some type of barber shop thing on campus. Antiquarian endeavor that is going the way of the Dodo. They dont understand how participation in fball can alter or add value to normal development by teaching life lessons you cannot learn in the academic setting or from a book. These teachers miss the implicit learning that happens over time in the athletes. Then, you have the entire Head Coach dynamic that to some admin sheeple can be threatening or represent the worst of Patriarchy. The male presence, especially the archetype male fball coach, on campus has been marginalized. We need a balance in the schools and right now it easy to realize that its unbalanced. The fball asst. makes 35 cents/hr in a good district. To be effective it takes learning from other experienced coaches, film, wieghtroom, how to recruit your community. The head guy and top asst.s do all this training and their own job for how much??? Its a ego-less thankless job.

I'll add that many head coaches will stay in a school for awhile, but as a society nowadays, when these committed coaches go 5-5 or less for 2 or 3 years in a row, they are publicly shamed and called upon to be replaced. This population represents the majority, as this board typically on discusses the lightning rod coaches.

I know plenty of good coaches to have a period of 5-5 and then turn it around to a great season and deep playoff run. Kids always learning a new system is never good. Hard to consistent when always changing the coach every few years

Hard to consistent when always changing the coach every few years too many places can't accept that their kids aren't always the best... now THAT is a major reason why you don't see coaches staying in one place for a generation. That and the fact that so many just don't actually understand the profession. Some of that is due to media, people actually think the coaching as portrayed in movies like Varsity Blues, the Program, and Friday Night Lights (the TV show and the movie) are how it is.

Some of that is due to media, people actually think the coaching as portrayed in movies like Varsity Blues, the Program, and Friday Night Lights (the TV show and the movie) are how it is. I agree.....so many good points here. Coaching fball is more a craft than a technical thing in that outside of the X and Os (technical) side it takes a while to learn how to "reach" different kids and build a student athlete up from the ground to be a consistent varsity player for hopefully two years. Parents do not understand this "process" more times than not. Plus, you can have kids who are understandably the better of the athletes on the team, but have a hard time being a team player cause the parent just care abt their son's success. The team becomes a by product of their childs success. On a different note I have a hard time with this "spread only mentality". You have young coaches that have had good athletes play for them, but when they leave you have to "teach" and they get all hopped up on scheme. Sometimes young coaches who experience success early can become too heavily invested in scheme over developing the broad skill set that is coaching in addition to scheme knowledge. This hurts the kids and the hs game in the long run.......if you look at the urban areas say like New Orleans area..where are the offensive fball coaches? Where are the QB coaches.....when you run spread it is easy to see where it is lacking

Sulphur has had an AD for years. People forget it has been the largest high school in the southwest louisiana area for almost 60 years, with exception of LaGrange for a small period in late 60s, early 70s, for when they had to open Barbe in 71. Tors may be down next year, but they probably have the best talent coming down the pipes in years. So whoever gets this job will get a gold mine. But hoping Paulk stays at SHHS!!!!!!

I’m just doing this for fun. It’s not the point but who is the AD? Only person you can say is the Principal or a VP. Calcasieu Parish does not have AD’s. They would have to pay them and everyone knows Calcasieu Parish School Board doesn’t believe in that. Principals make big athletic decisions at all schools.

Well, yes I'm not stupid enough to name a name on here as you know the rules and regulations on here, don't ya??? Oh. You're a freshman.
However, to answer you, yes it is one of the Asst. Principals, but he also gets paid EXTRA for that title at that particular school. Yes, it is an added title and it comes with $$$$. At most high schools it's the principal that makes those decsions, but at the larger high schools, and in particular Sulphur and Barbe, they have Assistant Principals that have extra titles and extra wages for that.

If Coach Richardson is leaving Welsh then a really good job is about to come open. Who will be the front runner for this job. Why would someone leave a job that won a state title and a runner up

More money everyone wants to better themselves and their family. He is 66-12 in 6 years. Two dome appearances , semi final, two quarterfinals and first round.
