Let's discuss how Edna Karr which clearly states it is an OPEN enrollment school on paper continues to be allowed to participate in football as a PUBLIC school in 4A. Explain

Karr is not the only "open" enrollment public school. All of Rapides Parish is open enrollment and not the only Parish that has that. Are you saying the Rapides Parish schools should also be "Select"?

very simple answer
it's all made up
the split is just to eliminate private schools
originally the 25% rule was gonna be 10% but the principals realized they would have placed every school as "select"
Amite wins with Hammond qb played welsh with Jennings rb
and the list goes on

Karr is not the only "open" enrollment public school. All of Rapides Parish is open enrollment and not the only Parish that has that. Are you saying the Rapides Parish schools should also be "Select"? There are certain public schools that have a higher percentage of students from out of zone than some “select” schools. It is hypocritical to say it’s ok for one set if schools to be allowed to do thus while kicking out other schools simply because they are “private” Assumption always have kids from Dville. At Ascension Christian it isn’t uncommon to have local public schools try to recruit our better athletes.

I agree with Indy, there are a few public schools in the select category, but for the most part it felt like the split was put in place to segregate out the private schools from the public. I know several parishes have "open enrollment" meaning as long as you live in the parish you can attend whatever school you would like. I also agree the current split having 9 state champions really dilutes the meaning of winning a state title, but as I have said before with the current rules in place for amending anything, the LHSAA is likely to never change.

Let's discuss how Edna Karr which clearly states it is an OPEN enrollment school on paper continues to be allowed to participate in football as a PUBLIC school in 4A. Explain Karr was originally going to be classified as a select school. Then the rule was "re-interpreted" to allow charter schools with open enrollments to remain non-select as long as they don't get kids from outside the parish. That's how Madison Prep changed from select to non-select as well. So Karr can legally enroll every football player from Orleans parish and still be considered non-select, but Holy Cross can get one kid from Chalmette and they have to be considered select.

Yet Byrd High School does not get any students from outside Caddo parish and they are still considered Select.
The Split rules were vague and convoluted for a reason, to fool the gullible principals into voting for the split. A public/private split was not going to pass and would have been challenged in the courts if it did, so they came up with the Select/Non-select scheme.
The LHSAA uses this scheme like politicians use gerrymandering; to achieve whatever outcome they are looking for. Nobody cared about schools getting athletes from out of zone. Nobody cared about transfers and sit-outs. The only thing public schools REALLY cared about was having 5 public school state champions every single year. That is what they wanted alll along and that is what they got. In their view that is a "level playing field".

Let's discuss how Edna Karr which clearly states it is an OPEN enrollment school on paper continues to be allowed to participate in football as a PUBLIC school in 4A. Explain Open enrollment is the key to being Non Select. No testing and GPA requirements for admission/retention, less than 25% of enrollment being "Select admissions students" and no tuition requirements also get a school classified Non Select. Karr is also a well funded magnet and high achieving School off the field. Most Parishes have open enrollment now but some Parishes are bigger than others.

That is exactly right. It was never about "leveling the playing field", but about getting rid of the "deplorables". But for appearances they had to dress it up and make it look pretty. Tommy Henry was correct. I'm not going to compare it to the holocaust, because that's just absurd, but it is similar to the tactics used by that regime and could definitely be considered a form of discrimination. Within a defined population, when a particular group is singled out, ostracized, removed and unable to participate in the activities shared by other members of that same population simply because those being removed all share one common trait, that is the very definition of discrimination.

It’s all a joke. Magnets are deemed as select while charters are not. All makes me chuckle.
Get ready because McDonough 35 is coming to 3a as a charter.

The entire thing is a joke.
Case in point, Ouachita Parish is "Open Enrollment".
I have a couple nephews that will attend either Sterlington or West Monroe (likely West Monroe) and live in Ouachitas zone.
They can do so because it is open enrollment and it will be their first school of choice as freshmen.
So it throws the entire nature of "select and non-select" out the window.
The reason why "select" schools are competing in playoffs against themselves has everything to do with public schools using a lie to ostracize a certain amount of schools based off some fallacy they have built in advantages. They dont.
As the SEC says, "It Just Means More" to those schools to win.

"Select" is much more of a function to keep kids out, rather than invite them in. If you can, by your school policy, keep children out of your school even though they live in your zone or nearest public school zone, you are deemed "select". As for Karr, yes, the can take whoever, but they have no policy that prevents kids from coming there. Therefore the school can grow and move up in class accordingly.
Many, most, private schools, have entrance requirement, that if not met by the student, can keep kids OUT of their school, therefore controlling enrollment. People look at the split from a "who you have" standpoint when in actuality it should be viewed from a "who you can keep out" standpoint.

But how does that translate to an advantage in athletics? Keeping potential athletes out of your school doesn't appear to be a good policy if all you want to do is win at football.

These two have homegrown talent ONLY.

According to the handbook their suppose to be but that part seems to get overlooked as long as said school doesn't have policies to restrict enrollment. Most people on here don't seem to understand what makes a school get classified as Select. Attendance zones only affects Dual-enrollment schools, which have some Select admission students and even that must be at least 25% of their enrollment to get classified as Select.

Not saying Amite recruited him or did anything wrong at all. Just shows that people find a way to get their kids into whatever school they want them in, public or private, or excuse me "select or non-select".

Statistically, the kids that tuition, academic requirements, behavior standards, etc. normally keep out are many times those who would help your school excel at football, basketball, and the like.
