I know the bigger schools get all the attention. But seems like there are some really good teams in Class B and C this year. I am familliar with a few of them in my neck of the woods. Some I have no idea where they are even located but they are perennially in the top 10 of the power rankings. Just looking for thoughts on the top small school teams across the state this year. Some real talent has come from these classes over the years.

Summerfield boys should win class C, Simpson or Atlanta should be runnerup to them. Plainview girls should beat Atlanta girls in the finals again.

I got to see Simpson vs Rapides at LSUA this past weekend. Very solid squad. Atlanta has looked uncharacteristically undisciplined in the 2 games I've seen them this year. Simsboro is Simsboro. Weston and Doyline could make some noise. Hicks is also highly ranked although I couldnt point to them on a map. Most of the north LA teams I'm familiar with. Once you get south of Winfield, not so much

backwoodsballer,,,,,just wondering where you're from. Btw, Hicks is close to the Texas border pretty much west of Leesville, if that helps you. I think playing at a C or B school makes it hard to get a college to notice a certain player, no matter how good he or she might be. College scouts seem to assume if a player averages, say 25 a game, it's done against very weak opposition. I got to watch Zwolle a couple of times in the last few years and I was surprised that they aren't big at all, but are still so good.

Movethechains, I'm from Weston with a kid playing there. That's why I know most of the teams from the area. I feel like they can make a deep run and was looking for some insight to some possible playoff matchups with the southern teams. I'm also familliar with Zwolle. We play them every year. We have actually beaten them the last two years during the regular season although they knocked us out in the playoffs last year. You are correct about being recruited from a small school being tough. Honestly if you dont play AAU all summer, it's tough to get noticed at any level of high school. The coaches at the next level want to see how you perform against elite level competition at the various tournaments and camps.

J-Hodge has had some impressive wins over larger schools, but have also had rough performances against schools like Lincoln Prep. It seems like whenever they are clicking JH is tough to beat. They should definitely make a run in 1A this year.

Only thing I can tell you about southern small school are we have two really good ones in Jehovah Jireh and Crescent City. I think Jehovah Jireh is probably a bit better this year

I still wonder at times how small schools like Plainview, Hackberry, Weston, Quitman, Fairview, etc. continually have great teams from such a small group to choose from each year. The best high school girls team I'm seen in my years, even though they wouldn't be considered small school, would have to be Iota when they had the twins and a John Curtis team a couple of years after that. As for an education, I firmly believe you get a better education attending a small school. More one on one with the teachers, and less distractions. JMHO

Referencing my previous post about Atlanta being undisciplined, there is one kid in particular who flops, taunts, and continually runs his mouth to the detriment of the team. He even tried to start a fight in the parking lot after our last game. Wouldnt surprise me if he were the one.

This kid should be the point guard. I’ve only watched them a couple times this season, but he normally controls himself well during the games. I could be wrong, but I feel like the kid you are describing is a different player.

Well to update, J-H took care of Atlanta. I dont remember the score but Atlanta kept it respectable. J-H was never in any danger of losing. Saline girls dispatched our girls fairly easily in a sloppy contest. In the nightcap, the Weston boys outlasted the Saline boys 42-39.

He is incredibly talented but tends to take plays off from time to time.

Saw Jonesboro Hodge against Atlanta last night. J-H by 10. Atlanta fair but not in Simpson or Summerfields class. Weston in class b is strong but zwolle and simsboro has small edge.

Bradford for JH has serious major college skills.Ever since Chance Robinson from Lincoln Prep outplayed him he has been unstoppable averaging 22 and 12. I good observation in that he takes to many plays off.

As far as Bradford not bringing the ball up he is not the point guard but as good as anyone one on one.

His court vision is crazy good. Playoffs should be fun for us, and I wouldn’t doubt seeing J-H and Lincoln Prep down in the final 4.

Have not seen any film on Zwolle this year so I cant speak about them. I can, however, tell you that Simsboro is good but Weston does not fear them in the least. They got a gift in the Claiborne Christian tourney. Everyone in that gym not wearing purple knows who the better team was.

Class B has a few teams that could make good runs. Pitkin and Hicks are also good Pitkin has a next level shooter that is in range when he crosses half court. If he gets hot they can beat anyone. Unfortunately he doesn't have much help. We played them in the Holiday Classic at LSUA a couple weekends ago and won by 8 after trailing by 6 at the half. The difference? He was on fire in the 1st and went stone cold in the 2nd. Or more like we put a guy in his hip pocket after halftime and made him go to the basket and the rim protector took it from there.

Anyone have any thoughts on Logansport? I saw that they're ranked pretty high but since I don't keep up with basketball like I do football i was wondering how they stack up against the other top teams.

Just google Hicks High School and you'll be safe.
