It was funny when the Louisiana 1A football twitter account was naming an all state team. They named Trev Faulk coach of the year. Someone from LCA quickly had them delete it and 15 minutes later they tweet congrats to the science teacher who is the official "coach".

The only science teacher who was also a coach at LCA this past year was a female and coached softball. Barry Baldwin is and has been the athletic director there for several years, at least 2 years prior to Coach Faulk ever coaching a player. Probably longer than that but that was when my kids started attending there. He was the official coach. You should really get your facts straight before posting, I’ll give you the benefit of not thinking you intentionally posted outright lies.

The issue here is that for football, there is no designation for "official coach" The rule is that the Head Football Coach must be a faculty member. Coach Faulk was clearly the leader of that football program, and any attempt to be coy and deny it is unbecoming conduct for those in charge of the school Don't try and skirt the rules. They could have either employed Faulk as faculty or he could have acted as an asst coach. The leaders of the school and especially the parents should be embarrassed if the school mounts a Bill Clintonesqe "depends on the meaning of the word 'is' is" protest

They have a history of turning a blind eye when needed to help a fellow out. They are the epitome of hypocrisy. Pastor Jay was clearly wrong but he is no , he can see all the rule bending everywhere else with no ramifications. So why should he have to follow the rules to the tee?

He used the term “official coach, I repeated that in my response. As to your pontification towards school leaders and parents, as a parent of two former students, I’ll seek my moral guidance elsewhere. I think, but do not know, that the school thought they were working within the rules. Knowing the character of several of the people involved, Coach Trev in particular, I am relatively certain they thought they were within the rules.

Now that’s comical! They all knew what they were doing. Just like Trev knows what he’s doing when he hires the local pee-wee organizations leader as an assitant coach. Starts the recruiting early to get them in school before 9th grade.

I have no idea who the local pee-wee organization leader is so I cannot comment on that.

And FYI, the guy you’re referring to has been the middle school football coach at LCA since before Trev Faulk ever stepped on campus. But feel free to keep making stuff up or parroting made up things that you hear and posting them as facts.

I am sorry, but it is quite clear what the intent of the rule is. Saying they "thought they were working within the rules" is akin to a child being punished and told to "keep your butt on the sofa" getting up, holding a sofa cushion against their rear and feeling the are following their parent's wishes. It may very well be a concept referred to as "normalization of deviance", where something that was once alarming is systematically accepted over time. Again, LCA clearly brought this upon themselves. The intent behind the rule is quite clear, and the rule itself is in place to prevent EXACTLY what LCA did. Putting the title Head Coach besides Baldwin's name doesn't make him the HC. Being the leader of the football program makes one the HC, and it seems obvious who the leader of the program was.

Looks like rulings on all appeals will be released in 24 to 48 hours, or whenever they leak to the media. From the article in the Advocate, LCA is appealing the fine and four coaches being suspended for a year (Baldwin, Rogers, Faulk, and Lantier). Lafayette High also appealed the suspension of a soccer assistant coach but it doesn't mention the violation.
The coaches and principals are also starting to see that finding a host site for championships late in the process is difficult. Wrestling had to settle for the only place with a schedule opening that fit and not any of the sites the coaches wanted. Soccer had to move because of a scheduling conflict at UL on championship weekend. Good luck to the select schools on finding somewhere besides your home field to play the championship games.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. We didn’t chose to get voted out.
I know I’ve said this before but let’s look at this logically.
Loreauville best baseball zoned for NISH. Not select which allows them the full allotment of playoff games.
Other private’s have out of zone kids too and deemed “Select.”
Look at the nd football team
Week 1 bye Loss of by lhsaa forfeit rule $2,000
Week 2 Game now team being played is similar to 1st round team so instead of 8–0k it’s more like 3k
Week 3 “Quarters” this gate remains close to normal
Week 4 Most profitable week. Due to people back from Thanksgiving and fewer schools playing But bye A small gate this week was around 15k
Then go to state The guarantee wasn’t met one year And these guarantees have been lower than pre split era
What recourse do you want “select” to have when “non select” have the super majority for votes and are being put in financial disadvantages
It’s nearly impossible to avoid losing money going to state with the joke of a check the lhsaa sends
Our softball team lost money going to state this year.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me. We didn’t chose to get voted out. with regards to championship locations, I was under the impression this was absolutely a vote driven by select schools. Or are simply referring to the split championship model in general? I don't disagree with any of what you posted here.

Referring to original split
But much like myth vs reality in that vote to leave championship sites isn’t being portrayed correctly
About 60% of “Select” voted for for it and and 55% of “non select” voted for it

Do you mean that people think it was 100% unified front by select schools? In this case, if 60% of the principals wanted it, isn't a "good thing" that "non select" principals gave them what they wanted?

Post by indy on Jun 11, 2019 8:00:23 GMT -6
I mean that it’s being portrayed as 100% united that was what “Select” wanted
Which isn’t the case
Now as far as if that’s what 60% wanted isn’t it good
No, not really
The principals mainly those on “non select” side are under the gun with state and federal regulations and are left with little or no time worry about or even consider athletics
At the “select” school the principal is worried about academics and teachers Again athletics doesn’t have much time to be a concern
I would think that if 60% of coaches thought something was good for academics evening meaning well which it would be easy for them to be wrong
In short just because 60% want something it may not actually be what’s best for the group

seems like both of us misread what the other one was getting at I understand your point about gate money missed. I personally think it should be 4 classes/divisions and 16 teams in the playoffs with the split. Teams in the brackets should be equal number across the board.

So better to increase enrollment gaps for both sides then go back together when both sides have out of zone kids?

So better to increase enrollment gaps for both sides then go back together when both sides have out of zone kids? The split is here so that's a moot point. I'm heading to the beach for baseball tomorrow so I'll have time to see how it would fall with 4 classes. In reference to your accusation about out of zone kids, according to the LHSAA Handbook, a schools attendance zone is designated by their school board or federal court. Non-public schools use the attendance zone parish line rule as set forth by the school board or federal court. St Martin parish doesn't have a non-public high school with athletics so those kids end up at the Red School, Ascension, or Teurlings because they are in a neighboring parish. All schools, "public" and "select" follow the rules set by the LHSAA. Complaining because the rules set don't fit your narrative doesn't change that fact.

Thanks for proving my point that public schools have same attendance rules as private’s and excluded for competition with them
That actually does prove my point and why the split is such a joke
It’s do as I say not what I do
I couldn’t have said it better myself you just said that the kid can go to loreauville and non select while catholic and ascension and they get select
How can you feel this is ok and justify the split?

I've never said the split isn't a joke, simply that the brackets should be cut down if the split is in place. You also have to look at the fact that Loreauville can't turn down a kid if the school board sends them to campus while those schools can turn away kids. We've had plenty of "troubled" kids sent to campus by the school board. Majority of the disciplinary issues (while really just a few) are with these kids that are sent to campus to be in a different environment.
