Not that surprised west Monroe lost. Lot's of talent on that team but horribly coached. Believe it or not coaching matters.

When the talent gap is big, coaching only gets in the way if they really mess up, but if it's close, coaching can make a big difference.

Up 18 and lose at home to a team that traveled a buttload of miles on a bus?
Yes, id say coaching played a huge part.
I am still shocked they lost. One of the better WM teams in a LONG long time.

One of the better WM teams in a LONG long time. 1, 2, and 3-5A teams get overseeded sometimes because all they have to play in non district are lower classification teams Meanwhile in NOLA we have four 5A districts within weeknight driving distance of each other, so we play more 5A vs 5A games

Being 5A they would earn less points playing lower class teams unless those lower class teams were good. This is not football, 5A is generally not the best classification as a whole. That is typically 4A and each of those districts are centered in areas that have powerhouse 4A or smaller teams. Bossier, Woodlawn-SH, Carroll, Wossman, Neville, Peabody, STM, Northside, Breaux Bridge, Washington-Marion among many others. Other than the Catholic league, who of those 4 NO 5A districts have had continued success recently. Bonnabel the last few years but they lost to 2-5A ASH in the finals last year. Even in NO, 4A and 3A have been arguably better than 5A for 15, 16 years. During that time #35, Wright, OP Walker, then Landry-Walker, Karr, De LaSalle, Cox, Crescent City, Country Day and now Carver have had teams that were among the best in the state regardless of class.

Read a sad story of a New Orleans police officer shot and killed at a New Orleans high school playoff basketball game the other night. The suspect wanted to go to the game without wearing a mask. Argument ensued, gun was pulled out, and now a police officer is dead.

Kilbourne is a pretender, not contender, in Class C. Their schedule was incredibly weak and they won't make it out of the next round.

Martinus Mitchum, he was an off duty Tulane University police officer and reserve deputy constable for the 2nd city court of NOLA constable's office working security at the game. He was a valued member of the Carver community and impacted young men at high schools around New Orleans. Rest in peace brother, we have the watch. Scotlandville is 5A and always among the top 5 teams in state for last 10 years.
But I agree 5A is not always the best.
U High teams with Sims and Mays were top 5 in state for 5 years and they are 3A.

I guess because everybody knows that area is strong on all levels. Just wanted to point out thats pretty much the case in all the metros. Having large enrollment numbers does not skew basketball like it does the talent pool in football.

To me, anyways, Benton over Ponchatoula is the biggest upset so far.

Does Fairview EVER not win it??? lol Also, congratulations go out to Northwood-Lena on a great season. I read they had a big lead. Something like 16 points. But EIHS made a great comeback. There's so may great games coming up, but we'd hate to pull up only to get turned away at the door.
