Fireman,
I was told that Chet Bass is the head coach at Buckeye. Not acting. Not interim. New head coach. Had a chance to see the Panthers last night, and they look better than they have in several years. They have a pretty strong senior class.

I've known Chet for a long time. He's a stand-up guy who has been at Buckeye for a long time, and he's also a state championship-level baseball umpire.

Peabody coach Marvin Hall will no longer be coaching football. The job is open online through the Rapides School Board. Graveyard Job! Basketball coach has ruined that program for years! Shane in RPSB for allowing it! Absolutely not true and the narrative needs to stop. Charles Smith is not impeding any of that, plenty of kids there have and are playing both sports. Football has been new equipment and uniforms in the budget. The one major problem is the football stadium and that would be on the school board who will only let that update be funded on a tax vote. All within the last decade we've made the playoffs more than any other time since joining the LHSAA, won our only playoff games since then, had a larger strech of winning seasons, hosted playoff games for the first time since then and had two 2,000 yard running backs including this year in a 0-10 season. We've had 2 great hires in that time, an okay one and then this horrible one that took all that success back to square one. That hire was a horrible one. It was motivated by friendship between Hall and then principal Jamie Henagan, to let Hall come closer to home, coach again and double as Asst Principal. It was bad from day 1 and I said on here 4 years ago, this would be the outcome. It was a forgone conclusion that this was Hall's last year. We have a new principal who didn't have time to do a thorough search. That's why its posted so fast after the season. I don't know where the new principal will go with his choice but he is competitive, wants to win and has the ear of the superintendent so he may get more backing for a better hire than any in the past. Smith gets a bad rep cause he's as good as he is and has been there so long and outlasted so many but quite frankly, the effort at hiring effective coaches in all sports over the past 20 years has been subpar. They've struck the right chord by luck several times by luck but could never make anything stick. We shall see what the new principal does in this area. He has definitely re-energized the community and its evident. This is the next step with athletics.

Open Enrollment kills them. Also I agree the Hall hire was terrible. My source is saying Kedrick Smith is the leading candidate. Knowing of Stewart, he’s gonna limit the search to certain candidates.

This is true too, but its also been happening since before open enrollment and a blind eye was turned to it then so who's gonna say anything about it now that Bachman is winning with all of them? Im certain Ked will be his dad's replacement, now that Stewart is principal. That I don't like, but honestly, he's doing most of that job now and was a good coach in his own right when he was a head coach. He won't get the football job. If I'm wrong, I'll admit and I'll roast Stewart for it. I can see Stewart limiting his choices too though, h e made a somewhat controversial hire already for girls basketball and we'll see how it pans out this year, but I'm hoping he at least wants to do something new. We had success running the spread under every coach who did, but this Wing-T stuff has NEVER worked for us. We always get a lot of candidates and usually from all over the state and even Texas. I just hope he goes for someone, who is can actually bring a real identity and development to the program, but the true determining factor for me, will be how he allows this coach to staff is assistants. Its been a long standing problem for us too.

Warhorsepride , is there anyone in the Cenla region that you believe could handle this job or bring success to the warhorse football program? It’s hard to get guys from outside of this area to come in and stick around long enough to build something special .

Statement from Franklinton Principal Shane Smith today.
After discussing the state of Franklinton High School’s Football program, the school administration and Coach Barber have decided to move Demon Football in a different direction by seeking a new head coach. We appreciate the time Coach Barber has invested into the program. He is a former player and assistant coach and wants what’s best for our players. He also is an asset on the faculty at FHS. Moving forward we will seek the most qualified applicant who will utilize the resources we have to develop players and maintain a successful program. We hope to make a decision on our next head coach following the LHSAA Football State Championships. Our plan is to have this coach in place when we return from Christmas Break.
He advised he will be drafting an application process soon. In the meantime he can be reached at Shane.smith@wpsb.info

It’s hard to get guys from outside of this area to come in and stick around long enough to build something special . I'm not sure who, but I don't think that is true. Toriano Williams would still be head coach if he hadn't pulled such a bonehead stunt as he did. Quite often I've seen young coaches like Sullen, Hicks and Williams come up and establish families, love the community support, the kids and really get pulled in but have issues with Administration or problems getting real assistants on staff, not just cecp guys who want to help. Thats why I really want to see what Stewart does as principal on the hire and on his plan to support whomever it is. For me that was always the biggest issue because we have plenty of talent but lacked development and game planning on a larger level other than the head coach.
