Leo Hendry who is a major investor in the telecom industry was on Fox Business's Claman Countdown and he was asked about sports and the cable/dish industry. He stated that the problem is that sports have become too expensive. He said, the sports controlled the cost and whatever the sport association or school wanted to charge for admission or to the cable companies and broadcasters for rights to the game is hurting the consumer who are no longer willing to pay the high and increasing prices. Thus consumers have cut the cord and most of the cable TV companies that have lost large numbers of subscribers. He expects the televised sports industry to collapse in the near future because of the outrageous salaries the players are demanding. The economic model cannot support the huge cost of producing a sport on television any longer. We may be seeing the beginning of the end for Multi-millionaire athletes as we know it and already hamstrung organizations such as the NBA may become insolvent. Comcast is already feeling the effects of these high cost and loss of revenue from cut subscriptions.

I have watched several NFL games this season and I am quite disappointed in the quality of play. These guys are out of shape and frankly many are just there for the check. Poor performances for sure. I have enjoyed the college games much more than professional games. Even though most of those on the fields on Saturdays will never play on Sundays, the quality and effort is apparent. Not just because UL is #19 for 2 weeks now, they need to find an offense or that ranking will not last.

I check the stats and scores from my phone occasionally. I may watch a Saints game or Burrow play for the Bengals once or twice this year if I have nothing better to do but hunting season is approaching so I may not watch a game. I've always enjoyed college ball more than the pros so I will be watching LSU every week, regardless of the nonsense going on with the anthem, protest and marches. But as soon as the college game moves into promoting the political crap nonstop and paying the players I will probably abandon it too. I know that is inevitably coming sooner rather than later.

I agree, I have a broadcast antenna for local channels and just the internet to a smart TV, ATT internet DSL $40.00 a month. I dont pay for ANY premium channels, about the only thing I miss is ESPN, but I really do not mind. Yes, Pro sports are facing a decreasing revenue stream. Just like NASCAR and the NHRA, the money is just not there. The industry model to advertise on a TV show/Sports has completely changed.

wshs...same as you, I haven't watched any NFL games. Don't plan to. And I don't miss it at all. I might watch a college game or two, MAYBE. The only football I still love to watch is high school and with all the mess going on, well you know what I mean. We plan to go to a game. We call the schools and no one can give a straight answer on if you'll be able to buy tickets. Called WM about their game Friday night. We called Friday morning and NO body knew for sure about tickets. STM flat out told us what tickets they do have are going for THEIR fans.

It's not just TV, the prices at the venues are insane as well. All for the same reason. Greedy players and owners.

I honestly think the best plan if you are wanting to attend a game is to start calling the visiting school on Monday. You may not get an answer until Wednesday or Thursday though. May not always work, especially for those primo games like WM, STM, LCA etc... but if one of those schools is playing a team that doesn't normally travel that well, you may get lucky and get some tickets.

Is STM not giving the visiting teams an allotment of tickets? If so, I would have to think that could cause some bad blood in the future when they have to travel. I understand getting as many of their loyal fans in the gate as possible, but at the same time the visiting teams family should be given the opportunity to be at the game.
