School Board members in Caldwell Parish have met and have decided it would be in their best interest to join the new association, should it come to fruition. This is gonna get fun boys! If more and more public schools defect, the LHSAA will go bottom up!!

I have family that live in Caldwell parish. You need to ask why they are considering the move because it will not be the reason you think.

Not being able to compete in district in certain sports and no competition in two other sports which hurts when playoffs come around. When I say no competition I mean none not even close to making a game.

Man we will miss Caldwell. You won't miss them long. Once public schools start to defect, the legislature will rid the state of the LHSAA and form a controlled league under the BESE board. You better hurry up and win one of these watered down trophies Many...small window of opportunity...

All of the football trophies from the split years are watered down. By definition, you separated some teams from others because you determined that you couldn't beat them on the field. That is not a strawman argument like the rest of your post, it is factual from what was was actually stated as the reasons for the split.

No one public or private can claim they are their classes best, because they were denied the opportunity on the field.

btown...You have posted a few things on this board that I may have disagreed with, but I could at least see where you were coming from.
How can you say that is an opinion? That is a fact...when you don't acknowledge that fact you are simply being foolish.
When there are teams playing in the playoffs with one or two wins, not to mention the fact that the competition pool is cut in half (or more), you are forced to acknowledge that the playoffs are watered down, and as a result the championships won would be as well.
I am not trying to pick a fight on which side is more watered down than the other, however the fact that they are watered down is undeniable. Come on Man...at least be real.
Would any kid feel that his championship is worth less than someone else's...no way...but that doesn't mean it isn't. When you play all comers it means more...that is another fact...not an opinion.
Fact= Something that actually exists; reality; truth.

So, if LCA beats Northside basketball by 40 or if tch football beats acadiana in football thats a watered down win? Two of those teams mentioned can give work study tuition to anyone that is a a serious athlete. Two of those teams mention has the worst facilities in the state. You dont want to hear us "non" select people/caoches b#^&(? Open up everything! Make it a free for all, everyone can recruit and any kid can go to any school they want. I'll out recruit 90pct of the "select" coaches in this city. I play with the hand im dealt with and love every minute of it. You say watered down, i say leveled playing field.
BTW- iknownothing, those hideous helmets you guys got hightower to purchase a prime example. The money spent on those things could finally get AC for our gym!

And the still play nonselect. So petition your school board. And i'm genuinely curious - if we set up a combine type test between TC and Acadiana, who would score better as a team? I am not sure, but my money would be on Acadiana. Over the years they've certainly put more players at the top levels of college football. From my observation, there are a small handful of private schools who have truly ridiculously athletic roster. Most private school football rosters are more solid than spectacular. Also I will ask you like I asked earlier to someone else earlier- show me where the Ecole Classique roster is absurdly athletic. Or Sacred Heart. Even schools like Vanderbilt, ED White, Menard, Saint Fred's. Clearly these schools must have an absurd amount of athletes on the roster as you feel that they need to be playing in a separate division. If John Curtis played any of those 10 times, what do you think the closest score would be? 30 points? 50? There is no doubt that there is some competitive imbalance in high school football, but this solution is not attacking the problem.

So when one school can select enrollment, based on whatever, and another school cant, thats not an advantage? If its not then the folks doing the selecting are complete s. Also, anyone who argues that fact that selection, in any form, over general population, is not an advantage, is ALSO an .
No one is actually that stupid. Doesnt matter. The LHSAA will NEVER be back like it was, not for long. If forced back by some means, the next "split" you will see is the public schools reforming in another association. Meeting are being planned, as we speak. You see men, this can and will be played both ways.

Btw, state law and the public purse to our public schools trumps all. Whatever your legislature wants they will get. They understand your concerns, but this is about the greater good

The Louisiana school for math and science selects its student body by strict criteria. Many does not. Many would win that game by approximately 1000 points and probably leave most of the LSMS kids injured. How owe can that be? That's a select school. Selecting is only an advantage IF YOU USE IT TO SELECT ATHLETES. Not all private schools do that. Again, answer my question from above. Tell me why EC has a roster that requires it to be moved away from public schools. It is a select school – why is it not dominant in athletics? Could it be that the administration is using some other criteria rather than athletics if it is selecting a student body at all? Nah. Can't be. In your mind no school would ever use any criteria other than athletics, and quite possibly that is how you would do it if you had the opportunity. There isn't anything wrong with that, but it doesn't mean that everyone sees things that way.

The reason a private school is not dominant in athletics can be many, thats not the discussion. The discussion is an inherent advantage by how the school enrolls, or denys enrollment. Smokescreens dont help ya

Smokescreens dont help ya No that's not the discussion. It has never been the discussion. That was the narrative that the split proponents successfully used to scare the majority of non-select schools to vote for this current playoff split. It has not, nor has it ever been about the ABILITY of schools to use an advantage. An advantage they have always had since the association began in the 1920's, btw. It was always about the IDEA that some schools MIGHT use it, even when there was no evidence that it plays any part in a successful high school athletic program. But keep beating that drum, bob. You may keep some people fooled by repeating that same line over and over again. Most people are waking up to reality and realizing that the split was not a good thing.

You will be penalized regardless, because you could. Can't be having that.

Attain, deny, retain enrollment. Let that sink in. Selective enrollment. Look up the root word "select" Just because a schools sucks at selecting, well, thats not really our problem is it?

eag, the point of mentioning that game was a jab at the "watered down" comment. That was my point, if acadiana or tch wins how is it watered down. On the other hand, what the basketball coach is doing at lca is basically a slap in the face to the select schools that try and go about it the right way. I think the select schools are starting to get a taste of what we have been going thorugh for years. This split may actually be the only way to keep decent athletes in public schools, we shall see. But to continue to see good kids from my neighborhood to to a private school 15 miles away on a "work study program" is wearing me out.

And I don't think the select schools are "going through" anything close to what you guys have gone through, because most of it is made up. I think the legislature will eventually intervene and take over high school athletics. Which is the worst of all case scenarios.

Attain, deny, retain enrollment. Let that sink in. Selective enrollment. Look up the root word "select" Just because a schools sucks at selecting, well, thats not really our problem is it? You guys have now decided that this is what you are hanging your hat on, since "they recruit" has been proven to be a two-way street on countless occasions. What I don't understand is why you can't see, or refuse to see, that there are many many different ways that PUBLIC schools "attain, deny, and retain enrollment" in this state. I'd say there are many public schools who have much greater advantages with regard to this than private schools, with one additional HUGE advantage - it doesn't cost anything to go to public school. Here's one of those examples. Kids in the Peabody (non-select) school zone can go to Menard (select) if they want to. That is, if they have the money (or apply and qualify for financial aid), the grades, etc. How many basketball players you think Menard gets from the Peabody zone? They should get an unfair amount, right? Since they are able to attain, deny, and retain whoever they want. For the vast majority of people in this state, having to come up with thousands of dollars in tuition is a sacrifice - one which many do make because that is a better situation for their children. This is despite these same parents paying thousands of dollars in tax money to finance the public school system which they do not even use! Look at it this way. There's a kid moving into a city with decent public schools and one or two private schools. The kid and parents visit the schools and they have comparable athletic and academic programs. J.Q. Public HS costs $0, St. John Smith HS costs $10,000. Who has the advantage?

So, a school who is not trying to build athletic factories 'sucks at selecting'? Ive always said that what a person thinks is going on in a certain situation tells a lot about that person. You seem unable to fathom that some schools continue to see sports simply as a valuable extracurricular activity for their school community to participate in, and don't have any intention of changing the schools mission to that of an athletic factory. Says a lot to me about what you would do if given the opportunity, and maybe that's why we don't see eye-to-eye on this. As a tuition paying private school parent, whose kids all play/played sports, I'd be pissed if sports became the driving force in the school decisions.

From the schools you are talking about I'm assuming you are in Lafayette parish. Am I correct that Lafayette has open enrollment and students can choose to attend any school they wish as freshmen? For free? Sure, they can also choose to attend TC or STM, but those darn sure aren't free. Who has the advantage? Are public schools in certain areas of the state so bad that parents pay thousands of dollars for something they could get for free? I think that answer is a resounding yes. Obviously it's not the case everywhere, but in many areas it is - especially in the larger population centers. So it's the private schools that are doing wrong because they have a superior academic product that parents choose to pay for...unreal. It's kind of like the political landscape nowadays. It's business owners' and rich people's fault that some people drop out of school and are only qualified to work minimum wage jobs - or no job at all.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think the private schools "are doing wrong". I just think they are a different animal from the public schools. I see no reason not to have select and non-select for the playoffs. Just another way to create fair competition, similar to segregating by enrollment.
