I am not surprised by the dominance of the split on these boards, but it seems that many people have missed something catastrophic for some school athletic programs. The state is now assessing full taxation on all athletic events, public and private. If it is considered entertainment you admission to the event will be taxed. If your school has a booster club and they sell raffle tickets, or have an event and charge a fee, it will be taxed. If you have a prom or school dance and charge a fee to go, it will be taxed. When and if you get to the Super-dome next year, you will be taxed extra at the hotel, and admission at any LHSAA event will be taxed. If you have a honors banquet and you charge for admission or charge for the meal, it will be taxed. NOW this is a real issue you should all be outraged about. Even your fee to join your schools beta club, chess club or any other organization that uses a facility will be taxed.

And they are waiting on a ruling as to whether participation fees will be taxed.

The people we have elected in the past and present are only out for themselves, trying to get re-elected. When the public has to start paying more to go to the games, signs, banners, programs, & everything else they get on Friday night or any other night to support their team maybe everyone will start to pay more attention to what is going on.

Just a question
If you don't sell tickets, banners, cokes, candy.....but you take donations are they taxable? I'm not sure but I bet at lease 1 good accountant either came from every school or supports one to find a way around this if there is one.

For your generous donation of $15, here is your complimentary stadium pass for the evening and a voucher for a free hot dog and bottle of water from the concessions.

But all the beer and tailgate food is still taxed! So no harm done to the states budget!

Does anyone know where the money is going? will it be going back into the ath programs? Also, ppdad we tried that sseveral years ago when the administration was trying to put the admission money into the general fund of the school. When they did that, we made admissions free to enter for everyone. Central office didnt like that so they told us we had to charge. They were told no, not unless it goes into the correct accounts. The issue has since been fixed. Hopefully this taxation will be do some good. If im guessing, we wont see a dome of it just like the casino money

It's been on the books before (I think) but there were exceptions given to Not-for-profit, schools, etc. Now the exceptions are being taken away so everyone will have to pay this tax. I would guess it is going to the state general fund. Not an accountant or politician so I'm not sure.

Passed a house committee. My local Senator knows nothing about it yet, so that sounds right. My local House Rep can't imagine it becoming law. Just saying

Just saying Great, so do we charge $2.12 for a bottle of water at a game? Give it away, and kindly make a $2.00 donation to the dance team. If this were to become law it will be a cluster f#€£! Where is the LHSAA on this? To me they should be front and center in the legislatures face on this.

I would guess it is going to the state general fund. Not an accountant or politician so I'm not sure. The exemption has been taken away and it affects all. Depending on the parish, which usually follow state exemptions, you will now have to pay the additional tax. The school will have to make a choice, keep the prices the same and remit a portion of the proceeds back to the state as a percentage for taxes, collect the tax as an addition to the sale price as most businesses do. You have an increase in cost of sales, because now you have to track you sales in more detail, have and increase cost of administration because someone has to followup, report and remit sales and taxes collected monthly. Schools are already required to pay this tax increase as of April 1. Elections have consequences.
