No, it's in the hands of the "Order of Bishops" Unless you are a member of that elite group you really have no idea. The Priest and chancellors of the schools are not even included in the conversation is how I understand it. So roughly 7 people know what's going on. I can't say I'm surprised... Those 7 hear confession regularly, they know exactly what's going on! Lol

I wonder how much of this would be averted if private schools opened their books... They are open. LHSAA spot checks all the time. There is a financial report that is sent but it is not an audit. That tuition is paid is also reported along with any financial assistance given and under what program the assistance is granted. The Catholic Church as are all Churches is exempt from government and public interference. It is nobody, and I mean NOBODIES business, who gives how much or for what reason to any Church or Church school. Whether you give a tithe, a greater or lessor percentage is between you and God. This is a basic right to privacy that the public systems do not and cannot understand. NO church school should EVER open their books to any outside authority without going through the proper court proceedings. The idea that any organization has a "right to know" what the finances of the church are is a basic violation of the separation of church and state. That door swings two ways. Having said that, any and all churches must report their finances as such to the government, but there is no taxation involved and there is no audit authority over the church or its schools. If the public school principals voted to demand that all private school finances must be disclosed, you would have an immediate injunction filed in a federal court and a mass exodus from the LHSAA overnight.

Honestly, I cannot even comprehend why anyone gives a crap who, how, or if a private school is paid when a kid goes there. I don't give a rip if a private school is 100% eating the cost of 100% of their students. So what? My taxes go to pay for kids to attend schools. If I want to pay for 5 kids' tuition at a private school, that's my business. I know people like to talk about how it's not fair and whatever. But to me, it's just a completely retarded argument or concern when public schools are sitting around with their hands in the taxpayers pockets all the time. And I'm not suggesting that you were trying to make that argument. Didn't want you to think I was directing that at you. I wonder how much of this would be averted if private schools opened their books... I don't know if they do or dont. Further, I still cant see what difference it makes when the old people across the street from me (with no kids) are funding public schools. We all know how kids are attending public schools; via taxpayers. Kids are private schools are there on someone's dime. The kids are very likely not paying for it themselves. I'm just not sure why it matters and I'm really not sure why it matters when I'm paying for a kid to attend private school and for kids that don't belong to me to attend public school. That's all my point is; why does it matter?

Some Catholics schools hold a monthly "Grandparents" Mass at the schools and those GP's give $$$$$.$$

I know that nothing is going to happen for this year, but has anyone heard of a decision being made or if a meeting has taken place or is scheduled?

I know that nothing is going to happen for this year, but has anyone heard of a decision being made or if a meeting has taken place or is scheduled? Mums the word but I'm guessing it's not a huge priority with the Bishops. I heard they will each appoint a couple well respected coaches to guide and advise them. They also are getting legal advise. So my guess is nothing will happen for 2-3 years. This is a big decision that affects many Catholic family's .

While the church is slow to move and the hope was that reasonable people could reason together, they know they must confront evil when faced with it. It is up to the schools to voice their desires. My concern is that they may want a certain amount of control over the new organization before they agree to any move and that there is proper financing by all potential members. They may even want members to produce financial statement before admission is granted. No need to bring in insolvent schools.
