So I heard today that Thon Maker, recently drafted by the NBA, was overage when he played as a freshman at Country Day a few years ago... he graduated from a high school in Australia and his handler took him to the USA and restarted his HS career... anyone think Bonine will launch an investigation here? There may be a lot the LHSAA can find, and it would help Bonine's approval rating among the small public schools who distrust him.
They have gotten more D1 basketball talent recently than a school with their demographics should get...

Unless dude comes clean, I think it would be very hard to prove he's not the age he claims.
Then you'd also have to prove that Country Day knew about it, or even had suspicions.
As for the demographics, that could just be a product of being good/well known or they could be benefiting from having had a few people come through there. If a school has some big names come through, it tends to draw others looking to make their name big.
I've never heard of the guy until this thread. But I'm not into round ball at all.

He only played 3 games at Country Day. immaterial... Country Day thought they were getting a 7'0" stud that would guarantee state championships in 1A... they made his guardian an assistant coach while he was there... meanwhile his parents were left in Australia. Information came out yesterday on Reddit that he graduated high school in Australia in 2010... The thing is, what did Country Day know and should they have been so quick to take the guardian at his word that Thon was 15. If this is allowed, a lot of schools will defend themselves in similar cases by saying they were lied to

If this is the case who is responsible for verifying that it is legit?

The LHSAA would also have had a copy of his birth certificate too...

It doesn't matter what the school knew or did not know. The most that could be done would be to forfeit the games he played in. If it was only three games during the season, they would appear on the official record as an F. Possibly, if any one of the games were a playoff game, they could make them turn back in their trophy, a la Bastrop and announce another state champion. The school itself would face probation, and the coaches would be sent to watch a video. There are no teeth in the disciplinary actions of the LHSAA. Even if they could prove that he, his family and the handler purposefully deceived the school, the school only gets penalized.
