J-Hodge girls were down 30-18 at half tonight against Pine and ended up winning 61-41. Great to see the team get a win given everything they’ve been through. Will probably be a rough and long trip to Amite but they’ve got a lot to be proud of

going into the boys playoffs, some notes:
Amite is 23-2 since their own tournament (21-2 on the court with forfeits from Varnado in district and Hammond in the Amite tourney) including a win over St Thomas Aquinas who recently beat French Settlement (en route to STA winning district 10-2A)
ever since their loss to Catholic of New Iberia, Franklin has been on a tear in district with only rival West St Mary playing them within 20 (to be fair, WSM was a 3-point game). Franklin will be a tough out
Jonesboro-Hodge's boys basketball team has won 7 straight including wins over North Caddo and over Arcadia, both at their respective gyms. They play at Ruston today in a "tune-up" game for the playoffs.
Rayville's been convincing in district, including a 12-point win over Madison Parish.
Despite recent injuries, Port Allen has still been impressive aside from a rough game against Madison Prep. They're still very much a top contender in 2A

On film Gym looked like there might’ve been 20 people there. North Caddo won by like 10-15 I think. I could see J-Hodge doing anything from losing in the first round to making the finals. Truly depends on which version of the team shows up.

I know it was used to determine who gets that extra point for being “district champs”, so that will go to NC. JH lost to Ruston 56-40 tonight as well

Many got a good draw, better look out for the Tigers. Played in one of best districts in the state.

I’m pleased with J-H’s situation. Rayville and Port Allen on the other side. If we can make it to round 3, a matchup at Lakeview would be awesome. Lakeview has only beat Winnfield by 9 and 3 points. J-H beat them by 3. Might be a close matchup. Hopefully we make it there tho. One game at a time.

in that 4/5 quadrant of the bracket, I see Amite being the team to reach the top 28. They've really picked up their game since football season ended, and even with a season ending loss to 5A #14 team East Ascension, who I could see giving Ruston problems in 5A's round 2, the level of competition they've seen on a few occasions (and beaten) during this stretch leads me to believe they'll be a team that benefits from being on the top side of the bracket.

Makes me feel better about JH losing at the end of the year to them handily

Amite vs St Helena in the second round will be a good game. Amite beat them twice but once was by 8 points .
Rivalry game.

J-Hodge beat Oakdale 80-71. Could barely get to 50 against Welsh but put up 80 on the 8 seed

Avoyelles beat French Settlement 73-63
French Settlement only scored 8 points in the 4th quarter. They were leading the entire first 3 quarters of the game.
Avoyelles has a post player that must be about 6"6. He is a good high school player. Don't know his name.

Many on to the Quarters. We should move on to semifinals I’m not saying you can’t beat Amite, but going there and winning definitely won’t be easy. I do think its funny how playoff runs work. Few years ago when Many was a 3? I know they had the Booker kid, anyways I thought that was a semi team no doubt and they were upset early. This team has been up and down but seems gritty.

You would be very wrong about that. I’m the football coach and I’ve always encouraged kids to play all sports. I even volunteered to help be asst coach basketball for several years so football kids would play.
There are kids that would be very good but THEY chose not to play.

J-Hodge falls at Lakeview 79-59. Game was a lot closer than the score. Lakeview isn’t amazing, but man they hit some absolutely TOUGH shots. Deep contested 3s, reverse circus layups, everything was going in in the 2nd half. JH didn’t have a jump shot made in the first half, yet was only down 7. And the Lakeview floor was straight up terrible. Probably had 30 slips between the teams where the guy dribbling falls and turns the ball over. Asked the Lakeview coach about it after and he said “tell my principal”. Said he’s been trying for years to get a new one but it hasn’t happened. Wouldn’t say it effected the game too much besides our PG getting hurt for a couple minutes, but still crazy that such a good program like that has those problems. Good season for the Tigers.

I went to Port Allen game.
Winnfield was good that night. They really should have won. Game was tied at 59 with two minutes to go. Winnfield held ball for about 90 seconds and then go a charging foul. It was a call that could have gone either way. Port Allen got ball and Winnfield fouled with 18 seconds to go. Port Allen missed the front end of the one and one. Ball came and was tapped a few times, but Port Allen got offensive rebound. Port Allen missed a shot that was about 10 feet but Aries Lewis got offensive rebound and made a short bank shot as time expired.
So it is Port Allen vs Rayville again. 4th year in a row. PA is 2-1 so far. Port Allen beat Rayville 68-65 early in the season this year. I am very worried about this game. Early in the year Port Allen had Jalen Knox, the 6'5 senior who is out with torn ACL. a 6"2 guard Isaiah Howard did not play in the first game. He is good, but will turn the ball over. He is an excellent ball handler, however he knows this, and sometimes dribbles too much. This should be a very good game.

Best team we’ve had in over 10 years and we lose a most of them this year. After being up and down most of the season with injuries and covid I felt like they really came together the last few weeks and could play with anybody in 2a. Port Allen was just little too much.
