Who are the contenders and potential dark horses this season?

J-Hodge Girls will be pretty bad I’d guess. I know we have one girl that’s been a star since her freshman year that’s a senior, but behind her not much else. Probably end up around a 14-20 seed.
As for the Boys, we’ll probably be down, but are supposed to have a ton of height. I believe I saw that we’ll have like 8 players at 6’3 or above maybe. A lot of them are football players, so not sure when they’ll be back and in the flow of basketball. I’d expect us to be around a 12-18 seed, but could be higher.

I guess for sleepers, Madison beat a Tensas team that's usually a solid 1A program by 10
Also, Lakeview hasn't really played anyone yet but has started 3-0. They could have a good season, LCCP in 8 days could be a good measuring stick game, and their toughest non-district game which comes around the turn of the year, Peabody, will tell a lot about this team
I fully expect Rayville to be near the top again. Also, I assume North Caddo should get better once football season ends and their two sport guys get settled in. They're off to an 0-3 start
edit: this is all for boy's basketball

2A girls I look at Amite as the favorite. We lost a few keys players from last year but we have 3 real good players back. If we have a couple younger kids step up I think we are a final 4 team. I also think Avoyelles Charter will be in the top 4.

Boys played a really solid Quitman team tonight without about 8 football players, including 3-4 starters. JH won like 73-61 I think. Really impressed with the squad. We’ll be good this year and probably play 10-12 guys regularly.

They'll make some noise in 2A Madison is now 6-0 with a second win over Tensas and a win over Tioga. Still want to see more games against slightly tougher competition but they'll be good this year. North Caddo is still winless but has played all 3A and above opponents so far and should get some football players back soon after losing to Avoyelles in the quarters Rayville is 2-0 with 2 blowout wins and is set to play in the prestigious Hamilton Christian tournament starting tomorrow. They are definitely a top contender if not favorites.

Rayville, Port Allen, Lakeview, and I’m sure Red River will be top 8 or higher seeds come February. Winnfield is supposed to be pretty solid. JH will okay Lakeview, Winnfield, and North Caddo this year so I’ll get a look at them probably. I’m pretty excited about our team this year!

Loreauville will make the playoffs. Much improved all throughout last season with our new coach. Many close losses and a win against Ascension Episcopal late in the season. It's a long process but this group is building the foundation for the future.

Jonesboro beat Richwood by 4 a couple nights ago in our 2nd game with the football guys. Don’t think Richwood is as good as they used to be, but a solid win over a bigger school

I have the Lakeview Boys and Girls making the semifinals and/or the finals. Watched them both this year. Their girls are definitely something special. They shoot lights out and play tough D.

JH beat Lincoln Prep by 3, Parkway by 2, and lost to Southwood by 8 this past week. Two 5A teams that I think aren’t bad but I honestly don’t know. We played both of those games without Tydre and Mozee, who are two of our best 5 or so players because they were preparing for the football all-star game. After Christmas break they should get a good stretch of consistency with their full team

Cool to see them succeeding last time I saw Lena basketball this good two years in a row, they had a 6'8 post guy who went to Rhode Island, along with a head coach who had to have been like 6'7 (and a starting 4 man who was 6'5/6'6 himself and was more of a skilled big). I remember them because I remembered seeing them at the Sunkist Shootout the same year LCA beat Robert Williams's senior year North Caddo team in the championship game; they'd beaten STM in the semis.

LCA’s Jada Richard scored 55 points today against John Curtis. She already has 1,000 career points and isn’t half way through her sopre season.
She has a big future

2A Boys
Who is going to beat port allen?
Starting five
6"5 Jalen Knox 6"6 Jordan Brooks 5"10 Jisiah Fernandez 6"2 E.J Mcquillan 6"5 Aries Lewis
Jalen and Jodan are seniors.
they are not as deep as last year. There defense is still very good.
Dimario Jackson is the coach. He is very good. They only issue is that Coach Derrick Jones left and took his son Nico Jones with him. A 6"2 freshman who is probably the best freshmen in the state.

I was VERY surprised to see AES beat Episcopal in the Teurlings tournament 43-42
On the public side in the same district, Franklin looks to be a solid quarterfinal-ish team again Lakeview is still only a 1 loss team (to a 5A Northshore squad, not sure where they are this season but considering Lakeview beat Southwood, Northshore's probably really good this year) Madison Parish is still unbeaten, interested to see who they play in the Sicily Island tournament (which starts this upcoming Tuesday). Their district matchup with Rayville comes February 1st.
