Very good basketball team and a deserving champion.
After watching both teams play in the semis, I said LCA would have to have an unbelievable game shooting the ball to have any chance.
Well, they went 8-13 from behind the 3 point line and it still wasn’t enough.
With what they have coming back, I expect the Greenies to collect another trophy next year as well.
Congrats to the Newman team, staff and fans. I didn’t like the outcome but it was a fun game to watch and the better team won.

Really good game between two good teams. I think Newman made enough adjustments in the 2nd half on Williams. That and Jefferson and Lockett took over in the 4th.

Will be interesting to see how this goes for Newman. Being a part of the AAU pipeline is a vast difference than how the school has operated for the last 60 years.
Having Coach Livingston declare this Newman team the best in school history- while likely correct in an absolute sense ( athletes in 2022 are probably more skilled and talented than 60 years ago) Coach Tuohy’s won 32 games in a row, and state titles in 60-61, 62-63, and 63-64. Coach Fitzgerald’s teams won titles in 77 and 78 plus 3 with Livingston as a player (91,92,93). While Livingston is familiar with those 90’s teams, I don’t know if he is qualified to comment on the others.
I wonder if this might cause some rumblings given the new direction Newman Basketball is heading.

A state title where a kid isn't a participant is irrelevant to the admissions process, even when discussing schools such as Amherst, Bowdoin etc.

In the situation you are describing, the athletic teams are generally allotted “x” number of spots for applicants per “academic band”. For example, they may get to identify 3 applications that fall within the top performing academic band, maybe 1-2 applications that are in the second tier, and maybe one application that ordinarily would not be acceptable for the incoming class of 2022. If the applicant isn’t being tabbed by the college’s program to take one of those allotted spots, then basketball is just viewed as an extra curricular compared to drama club, model UN, French club etc.
