I watched the last minute or two of the second quarter on for LCA's first game against St Aug at home (it was 20-20 at the time). LCA won 70-50 but here's some things that stood out to me about the Knights:
First off, Kam Williams definitely put on a good bit of muscle. Last year he looked thin and wiry at 6'7, but this year he's definitely filled that frame out some with muscle (10-15 pounds?)
Also, that work on his all-around game over the past year or so paid dividends in this one. Still has some things to work on but is definitely an improved defender, ball handler and passer (in that order I think). Plays up to his recruit ranking
The team already looks solid without a couple of football guys that will certainly contribute (and in the case of Daejon Sinegal, possibly be a starter by the time district rolls around). Defense is active and rotates well with Williams using his length and size to anchor the defense in the middle, having multiple blocks just in the time I was watching. Defensive rebounding does need some work especially given they've got good size, though they did get a lot of offensive boards. Offense runs through Williams mainly and he runs it well, though he's not the only guy who can create offense.
Back to Williams, he definitely seems to have matured and is taking on more of a leadership role and is embracing that. Don't know how this team will do come playoff time, but I'd say they look better than they were last year, and that team made the finals in the old division 3 (losing to Newman 70-61)
I'd need to take a closer look to see what all these guys look like, though there was a kid wearing 21 who was probably 6'1/6'2 and seemed to be a glue guy type and I don't know if he subbed out for more than 2 minutes total (until 2:00 left in the 4th) in the time I watched. That said, beating a program like St Aug by 20 is a good sign no matter whose building it's in. Think some of that was foul trouble but with the aforementioned size of this LCA team and extra muscle their best player put on, I think that becomes a regular occurrence, although St Aug does play that aggressive man style of defense.

Saw some clips of Kam his cousin sent me. He looks good. Hopefully he doesn’t force some shots like he did last year and let’s the game come to him

Figured he had to have had close to 30 points and LCA’s Twitter confirmed he had 33.

Kam was excellent last night. I haven’t seen the game stats, but he had 33 points as you said. He also had to have 9-10 rebounds if not more and at least 4-5 blocks. He was unstoppable in the paint, while at the same time running the point at 6’7/6’8. Passed the ball well and added a handful of steals as well. The team will get basically an entire front court once football ends. You mentioned Daejon Sinegal, they also get Sam Taylor who was a starter last year as well as the addition of Trae Grogan. That’s 3 guys with good size and all 3 are strong and very athletic types which will take some of the pressure off of Kam on defense and provide strong rebounding. #21 is Scotty Woodcock. Very solid player who can get out of his mind hot shooting the 3 ball at times. #11 Morgan Collins is also a very solid player.

I’d make the argument that D3 is much stronger than D2 in basketball. LCA should be a player this year, not sure what STM has but they’ve been on an unreal run

Since the divisions are 25% each for every individual sport, who's in DII select for basketball is a bit different from football. Here's who all will be notable in this select DII because I decided to check and the more that I checked the more insane this division got:
Archbishop Hannan (defending DII champ) Isidore Newman (defending DIII champ) GW Carver (defending 4A champ) Madison Prep (defending 3A champ) LCA (DIII finals) Archbishop Shaw (DI semifinals) Episcopal (DIII semifinals) De La Salle (DII quarterfinals) Evangel Christian (DII quarterfinals) U High (DII quarterfinals) Peabody (4A quarterfinals) LB Landry (4A semifinals) And that's without naming Northside, St Michael, or St Louis Catholic
and by the way, DII runner up Liberty, 4A runner up Elanor McMain and STM coming off a DII seminals trip, all up in select DI now.

From a Baton Rouge perspective I don’t expect UHigh to be very good this year. And will probably struggle until the football players touch the court. Episcopal always will be well coached, they’ve got a couple guys who can play. Madison Prep, told to me by a long time buddy who has been an assistant there forever said this will be a different look Prep team that will rely on their guards and perimeter shooting more than ever. They don’t have the size they normally have and what they do have is very young. But the guards are very impressive and they are deep at the guard position. Expect a lot more full court pressure defense from them this year. Still length but not the big mounting presence in the middle as normal. I was told by the same coach they are keeping a very close eye on Newman. They’ll have 3 starters back since Arch will be enrolling early at Texas I believe but the kid Leman will likely take his spot is a big kid who played a lot last year. Also 2 sopres off the bench about 6’5 and 6’6. Todd Jones in back at center. Lockett and Jefferson back as the lead guards. They will be tough

Got a lot of growing up to do, especially in the paint.

Whats the rules for playoffs? Is it going to be the same as the change in football? Or is it still the 25% rule because those are two different things for us.
