Catholic High has Nico Jones back.
Watch out for them. They lost to Scotlandville last night 66-60. Catholic could win state, most likely final four team
I'm never picking against the following teams this year: Madison Prep, Port Allen, Scotlandville, White Castle. (too much tradition and know how for the Bulldogs)

Lake Arthur girls are down compared to the last few years. They don't have as much size or depth as previous years but they can shoot the ball pretty deadly. I don't see them winning state but I could see them making a little run which I didn't see coming into the season.
The LA boys could hurt someone's feelings as well. They came into the year returning basically everyone and with a new coach. They started out the season extremely sluggish for the potential I thought they would have. They turned it up in the second half though beating a Welsh team that had beaten them earlier in the year. They have a lot of speed and a strong press. Again don't see a state title but I could see a possible upset in round 2 given the right draw.

They are real young this year. The bulk of the team are freshmen and soph. Only one senior on the team.

Lake Arthur junior Vivian Sketoe surpassed the 2,000 point mark last night. She is now 200 points short of the school record and should shatter that next season.

Coached against her two years ago whenever she was a Freshman, and then watched her play as an 8th grader the year before that. You could tell she's a coaches' kid and a great player. As the kids say...."she got that dawg in her." I love how my alma mater has become a playoff mainstay in girls' hoops because when I was in school.....the girls' team was abysmal.

When did this happen? They have looked pretty good early this season. Like 2 weeks ago. They have still been winning, but are down a lot of depth. Still probably good enough to make the qtrs. But they don’t have many subs now. How about those Tigers? I saw them beat St. Mary's early in the year on a buzzer beater. St. Mary's beat #1 Northwood Lena who is also playing for a championship and they played Zwolle tough in a post season scrimmage game, so I felt Winnfield had a great shot to make a run. Good Luck to the Gators of Lena and Tigers of Wnnfield!!

They definitely proved me wrong! I’m glad! Hopefully they give port Allen a run.

They definitely proved me wrong! I’m glad! Hopefully they give port Allen a run. Me too. When port Allen squeaked past us last year, I was really disappointed because I felt like that was our once every ten plus year chance at a title. Longtime coach moved into admin, next hire doesn’t make it a week before he ducks out, next guy out in the middle of season, few kids quit. Thought we were done for, but here we are playing for a title. Hoping for a win, will be proud of the boys and what they’ve accomplished regardless of outcome.

Can you give details about coaching situation Winnfield has dealt with this year?

Can you give details about coaching situation Winnfield has dealt with this year? Our longtime coach moved into admin last year. A replacement with experience was hired during the summer, but about a week into dealing with AD/head football coach he bolted. Young man from Winnfield (past player during our football/basketball runs from a decade ago) was hired at the start of school. He wasn’t doing a terrible job coaching but incidents during games and off the court became too much. It turned into a train wreck and he was relieved of his duties. When he left, few contributors quit. Current coach is at the junior high and was asked to come over and fill in to get us through the year.

When he left, few contributors quit. Current coach is at the junior high and was asked to come over and fill in to get us through the year. From my understanding the longtime coach offered to continue coaching the basketball team as long as arrangements were made to get the boys to the gym for practice. Our gym is across the street from the school he’s principle at. That was shut down because the AD/football coach wanted a basketball coach that would coach football too. Supposedly had someone lined up for the job. Never materialized. Brought the one guy in but week of dealing with the AD he bolted. Ended up making the last minute hire that turned into a train wreck, with no one helping coach football

73/57 port Allen final. Just too much, watched port Allen Wednesday, completely different team. They weren’t missing anything Start of 4th was the decider. Down 6 and you leave #11 on the bench with 4 fouls. That was the moment to put him out there and keep it close for the end, if he fouls out oh well it’s probably over anyways. Instead secondary ball handlers have to run the O, and you saw a lot of turnovers. He checks in to an 11 point game with 5 mins, but now it’s over.

Was a one point game when he got his fourth and came out. Had double digit turnovers from that point forward. We have one speed, fast break. When it’s good, we’re good. When it’s not, turnovers and a lot of missed easy shots. Proud either way. Better team won. They top dogs for a reason. They are coached well. Know when to fast break, know when to slow it down. Don’t miss free throws. We needed them to miss shots like Wednesday.

I’m not gonna act like I know much because I watched them play 2 games, but that really felt like the game changer to me

Hasn’t been able to find his shot, but he will slow the pace down a little if needed and usually finds good passing lanes. That last quarter the youngsters made a dozen really bad passes either out of bounds or to port Allen.
