You ever been to Oak Grove? You ever been to West Carroll Parish? The casual traveler would drive up Hwy 17 from Epps to Kilbourne, or come in on Hwy 2 from Bastrop into Oak Grove, and think that they had been time warped into the 1970's. 90% of the parish is farmland, water and trees. It takes 30 seconds to drive through Epps, 15 seconds to drive through Forest and Kilbourne and 5 seconds to drive through Pioneer and Darnell. If you want to take the scenic route, you can hit Goodwill. That'll take 10 seconds. Or you can head west and go to Fiske Union....good ol' "F U"....and visit the Beouf River. You could literally drive through all 7 of those small towns and not see 20 people, total. You could pass through Oak Grove on Hwy 17 headed to Kilbourne, and if you hit the red light just right, you will pass right through downtown and see a handful of cars and maybe 10 people. Hell, on a good day, you could drive right down Main Street Oak Grove and head down to the Sonic at the other end of town, and unless it's lunch time, you won't see 20 people then either. There is very little in West Carroll. There is very little in Oak Grove. There is practically nothing in any of those other towns and villages. Except the people. Scattered all out in the country and down little side roads. Yet Oak Grove turns out great football, baseball and softball. Occasionally they'll make a run in boys or girls basketball. Kilbourne has long been a strong boys basketball program. Occasionally they are good at track. Epps was a long time track and basketball dynamo. As recently as the last 12 years, Forest won three state titles in baseball and one in softball. Unfortunately, due to very little tax base from anything other than Wal-Mart and a few restaurants, Kilbourne and Epps are closed. Fiske Union and Goodwill schools are closed. Pioneer was closed 35 years ago. People up there farm and pipeline for the most part. A few work in town here and there at a few businesses, but the majority of West Carroll and Oak Grove people don't live "in town". Teachers and coaches at Oak Grove are among the lowest paid in the state. You can look that up. What they DO HAVE though is a lot of tradition, loyalty to their schools and programs, and a whole lot of expectations that get passed down to their kids and grandkids. I would argue that Haynesville is much the same way. People in Oak Grove work off for months at a time on pipelines, or work amazingly long hours farming so that their family can remain in West Carroll and their kids can go to school there. By the way, Oak Grove is an "A" school when it comes to school performance scores. There aren't a lot of rich folks in Oak Grove or West Carroll. But that is where they want to be, so they make their life as good as they can, and that includes having outstanding students and having outstanding sports programs. They will spend their last dime to give their kids the opportunity to be a part of something succesful and special, but at the same time, they understand that there are demands and expectations placed on their kids that have to be met at school and on the playing fields. Before you continue to make a fool of yourself and talk about things that you don't understand, take a drive up to West Carroll Parish and spend the day driving around. Stop and visit with some people. Go by the school and visit with some coaches. Attend an Oak Grove game of any sport. You will see what I'm talking about. I haven't lived there in nearly 35 years, and neither have most of my old friends from home, but some things never change. The folks who have chosen to stay , and the ones who have come there and made Oak Grove and West Carroll their home, have chosen to be exceptional, academically and athletically, in spite of their lack of resources. I think I speak for a lot of people who read on here and some who post on here when I say instead of bashing Oak Grove for their success and looking for a "reason" for it, why don't you give them credit for building something amazing, in a parish with the 59th smallest population in the state out of 64 parishes and virtually no resources beyond agriculture, logging and hunting and fishing. “Eyewitnesses” of course being impartial and the most accurate assessment 🫡

And the enrollment numbers prior to consolidation-which we gained nothing football-wise was around 50 students Do you know how many “adding a whole school of kids” actually added?? 40 total students….can tell you for a fact that all of 1 kid from that number played football! So your weak memes really weaken even more if possible now….

Ok yea Oak Grove majority of the time may have a higher number of players but it doesn’t matter only 11 on a field at a time is how most teams look at it, OG always had platoon numbers every since we started back playing them when they dropped back to 1A in 99’, and we are 5-4 in that time span against them, you win some you lose some. Last week we just got out played & out coached, all good try it again next year, can’t use the numbers excuse imo

Pretty simple, I forget the actual %, but schools are put into select if a certain % of their enrollment comes from outside their zone (I know there are other situations, like open enrollment, ASH, etc). Paperwork is already being done on these kids, if that percentage is met for kids who are not in your district, but play football at Oak Grove for example, put em' in select. The raw talent and dominance of Oak Grove the last 5 years, I don't think that is just the "it is a well run program" idea. You ever been to Oak Grove? You ever been to West Carroll Parish? Very well said. What some of those haters don’t seem to realize s that when you take census and even count the nursing home residents you only have 9,500 people that live in West Carroll parish ( you can check the census numbers on google)and the school aged children are divided between 2 schools. It takes a buy in by the kids, parents, grandparents, and the entire community to have the kind of success that we have here. We have always and will always support our school and our kids and are extremely proud to do it.

Obviously 2 weeks is a long time for some. Looking back at the bracket, I'd say OG and Mangham were the 2 best teams in Division IV. Played the Tigers tough both times. Just a thought. 😂😂😂

Without a doubt, Oak Grove has turned into an actual machine the last several years. Of course, that is much easier to do when you can pull kids from every school in the parish because you're the only one who plays football. All these recent state championships should have asterisks next to them. Its a joke Oak Grove stays in Non-Select but other schools get pushed that way. And as I’ve pointed out many times on here that is not and to my knowledge has never been West Carroll Parish policy. Kids that live in forest or Epps cannot attend OG jus to play football. I’m pretty confident I’m right on that. If I’m wrong somebody can pull up the policy. This is a false narrative created by jealous people who hate seeing others be successful because it reminds them of their own shortcomings I am certain you can’t deny a kid to play football at another school if there school they attend doesn’t have football. I know of schools that has had kids come play football when they get in jr high from a neighboring schools because that school didn’t offer football.

My man your numbers are way off….OG dressed out 59 Haynesville 50??? We dressed 36 players majority of the season. We brought up a handful of 8th graders a few weeks back after their season was over. Gave us about 41 total players, but only 1 made an actual contribution. I think I counted a little over 60 for OG. Numbers definitely helps, but it wasn’t the deciding factor. OG was just flat out better than us. We did some good things and have nothing to be ashamed about. OG did to us what they’ve done to teams all year. Haynesville will reload like always and be one of the top teams in D4 next year. Thank you. It is what it is. Nobody from our team is making excuses . The fact is the tigers were the better team in both meetings. Nobody likes to lose a championship but it happened. If you have to defend your win it makes me think why?

Well knew this was coming…. Same thing from last year. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️… why i haven't even checked until now i knew the excuses were coming. Sorry not sorry. I would be mad too. But maybe blame the power points….. 🤷🏻♂️ you put Mangham or Kentwood on the other side and it would have been a better game…… just like last year ……. Sorry , folks was trying to tell yall the state game was on the other side of the bracket. But did anyone listen nope. I hate being this way but yall seem to not understand that. kentwood gave us a game and Mangham. The old endless debate/argument. From where I was sitting Thursday night I truly believe there is not a team on either side of the bracket that was going to beat the Tigers and the rest is irrelevant.

That drive from East Carroll every day should account for something. What about the Harris kid? He count in west carroll enrollment or what The list goes on…

That statement doesn’t even warrant a response but how many examples of this do you think goes on at EVERY public school? That’s hilarious! And yes #10 and Harris both live in West Carroll-every day of the week lol….this isn’t little league baseball man-you think OG would be that careless to just have kids giving a fake address and not living there? If they live in parish every day of the week then I’m pretty sure that isn’t “getting kids from out of parish”

The old endless debate/argument. From where I was sitting Thursday night I truly believe there is not a team on either side of the bracket that was going to beat the Tigers and the rest is irrelevant. Maybe but Kentwood was ahead in the 3rd qtr Granted 3 fumbles didn’t help OG at all We got lucky against Mangham. Granted didn’t play our best game but beyond the point. Ever since Mangham everyone was doubting OG and fair point sure. Then everyone wanted OG didn’t hear the numbers not fair excuses. Then OG beats Kentwood and wins state. Here comes the excuses and not fair stuff again… just gets old is all. But great season for Hville. I know yall will be back soon better watch out for Mangham though. Kentwood will be back as well. They got some players coming up Since we being real I disagree on Mangham statement-was mo “luck” involved-that game was kept close simply because of 17 to ONE penalty count-one ridiculously missed fumble that led to one of their scores…OG clocked ball inside 10 yd line closing minutes of game…so no luck there

Was Jackson a junior or senior this year? Don’t have access to y’all’s official roster-thought he was senior and then heard during the game he was a junior? Love watching that kid play-was nervous as hell every time he touched it in our two games….he is fun to watch-but def one of those you would rather watch on your side and not other side for sure lol!

He's a Sr. I wish he was a Jr. And yes, I was hoping we'd try to get him as many touches as possible, but I guess the coaches had other plans. But yeah, Alonzo will be missed, maybe more than any player that we've had in the last decade, but we have an incoming freshman, Ethan Henderson, that's really a splitting image of Alonzo. He carried the ball a couple times in the title game, #24.

What’s not being talked about enough is the special group of kids Oak Grove has. They were very young last year when they came to Haynesville during the regular season. We were able to scratch out a close win. But, we saw enough to know they would likely be the team to beat for the next few years. What we didn’t know,, was they would figure it out that year and go on a tear, blow us out in the playoffs and win in all. Once that happened, this year was almost a foregone conclusion. It was cemented during the regular season and again in the Dome. This is a special group. When they’re on, they’re unstoppable on offense. Talent like this doesn’t come around often in small town football. Although we’ve been on the receiving end 3/4 times, I’ve enjoyed watching them play. I’m not sure if OG will be back on our schedule or in D4 next year. But, wherever they end up, I wish them well.

They got some players coming up Is Mangham 2A to
