Which team can stop the run ? Both are gonna try and run A LOT ! Which team pressures the QBs early to make mistakes? All are inexperienced under those lights. Turnovers are gonna hurt either team. Which qb is gonna make throws outside the pocket when it matters cuz Both defenses are gonna cause fits and bring pressure. Explosive plays are gonna be needed.
Coaches will be playing chess.
Trey Dez May be the X factor IMO
With all that said about defenses..
We’ll probably see a crazy shootout haha
Should be a good one.
I’ll take Zachary because even though you know what’s coming, they still find a way to win the big one. And no one saw it coming all year. Time to sit back and enjoy a great weekend of games.
God Bless

just my two cents. Zachary knows how to win these games. coaching staff just too d@mm good For what it’s worth, this is the same coaching staff that Ruston faced last year in the Semifinals. Ruston won that game pretty convincingly. This game will be won by the team that controls the LOS, and the team that can make the most explosive plays. I expect a great battle between two of the best teams in the state.

Something else that comes to mind also is that both teams went to the dome the last 2 years but neither of the starting quarterbacks played in those games. The old saying is that a good running game and defense travels well. I know a lot about Ruston’ running game and defense, but I’m interested to see how Zachary challenges Ruston's strength. It will certainly be strength vs. strength with Zachary's OL against Ruston's DL and ILBs. Kameron Thomas has had two big games in a row, but I'll be interested to see if he's capable of gashing Ruston like he did Destrehan and Dutchtown. If Ruston can force Zachary to throw the football, I like their chances of Guidry, Breaux, Bell and Key getting to Spangler and Gonzales.

just my two cents. Zachary knows how to win these games. coaching staff just too d@mm good I just don't buy it. Yeah, people say there's magic when Zachary gets to the Dome. And you can't argue with Brewerton's success. But Jerrod Baugh is no slouch as a head coach, and his DC only won a national title in college and played in six Pro Bowls during a 13-year NFL career. Ruston was a middling program when Baugh took over, and he's now led the Bearcats to six straight quarterfinal appearances and two straight Superdome appearances. Also Brewerton and his staff didn't look all that great in the semifinals last year when Baugh and his staff blew them out.

I know Ruston beat Zachary last year at home in the semifinals 37-22 I believe. What is the difference between this years Zachary team than last years. If I can recall I know Zachary had the talented quarterback that committed to Alabama and several D1 prospects on defense. I remember in that game as well, that the Zachary quarterback was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury.

Last year, the strength of Zachary seemed to be on the back end of the defense. That wasn’t a good matchup for them against Ruston. This year, they appear to be very good in the front seven and they’ve looked really strong against the run. Ruston is going to have its work cut out for them if they want to run the football.

Good moves on the staff changes and they seem to be paying off. Central and Dutchtown used excess size and overloaded one side to vet zachary our of alignment. Central actually used an unbalanced line. They schemed them to struggle. After the break Friday zachary adjusted to the odd formation dutchtown ran. Ruston needs to scheme around this tendency for Zachary to fail to adjust to overloaded sides to over match and negate their speed.

Don't see how Ruston will even stay on the same field as Zachary (if you read this forum).

What did a mediocre WM team do to get in a close shootout with Ruston ? We know WE played physical ball.

WM matched up due to athletes outside. Zachary's OL is the best Ruston will see all season long. If they truly sell out to the run they will get picked apart in the passing game. I also expect #5 or #4, to be big Saturday for Zachary outside. They are tall, fast, and run good routes. Rustons secondary will be the key, not their DL or LB, if Zachary's OC is worth his salary. ID be dinking and dunking all night with those athletes outside.

I’d expect to see that and stopping #81 on screens is probably the hardest to tackle. They won state on that play with Chris Hilton late TD. We know you remember that. If Zachary scores early, it’s gonna be often.

Don't see how Ruston will even stay on the same field as Zachary (if you read this forum). I know it’s sarcasm but I do t get this sentiment at all. I was one of the biggest detractors of Zachary all year and my nephew plays for them. They proved me wrong. This should be a fantastic clash and I still favor Ruston. But to say Zachary does have some advantages is be lying. Green dictates coverage. You cannot frequently line up one on one with him. Too big, too fluid, good speed. It’s a mismatch. Ruston plays bully ball. You know what’s coming and they feel “my men are better than yours, stop it”. And it’s worked for 2 years. Many teams have tried to bludgeon Zachary this year and they won. Many teams have tried to spread out Ruston and lost. It’s going to be fun

Absolutely. They are more physical and can run the ball and also pass protect. All sacks Zachary allows are coverage sacks. Clifton Webb is a big time prospect in my opinion for next season. Dude moves his feet incredibly well and is extremely physical. Wait until next season. Their freshman OL was ridiculous. Especially the kid from Texas.

The luck zachary gets is indeed real. Check this out. The ball truly bounced off the receivers hand as it hit inside his hand. Replay would have to have multiple shots to get a clear enough look to overturn. But, to this angle that ball is in his hand 😂

Replay would have to have multiple shots to get a clear enough look to overturn. But, to this angle that ball is in his hand 😂 Wow. Great picture. Wondered myself if it was clean as the video on Twitter didn’t show it. Everything went right that day. I know those coaches have them locked in now. If Zachary scores early, it’s over. The momentum will carry them. If TreyDez gets one early, he’ll have himself a day and won’t be stopped. I mean, throw it up 11 ft high and he’ll catch anything with that vertical. Freak athlete. Ruston has less of a passing game than what Zachary has faced. Zachary secondary is pretty dang good. So Ruston will need to have to have a big day in the ground. WE and WM qbs made their throws outside of the pocket against Ruston with mobile QBs. Im sure we’ll see Z do roll outs, if they stay in the pocket, that OLine is the gonna be key or Ruston will feast on their QBs. Can Zachary continue to stop the run ? Can Ruston ? I think yes. Weird feeling that we see a shoot out. I’d bet the over and think we’ll see an instant classic to end the night.

just my two cents. Zachary knows how to win these games. coaching staff just too d@mm good That coaching staff got out coached tonight It's so easy for somebody to say this, and it's such a copout. Zachary had a GREAT scheme coming into this game. They held Ruston's best offensive weapon all season, a 1,700-yard rusher, to 3 yards. If you told any Ruston fan before this game that Jordan Hayes would be held to 3 rushing yards, they would have said they were going to get blown out. It's a pick-your-poison situation, as Brewerton said after the game. Ruston had not proven all season that it could win a game throwing the football. They had a first-year starter who was completing 52% of his passes on the season. So Zachary loaded up to stop the run, and it worked. Ruston popped a punt return late in the first half to tie the game at 10, and then made the necessary adjustments at the half to what Zachary was doing. Ruston never was able to run the football with its two standout running backs as the longest rush for either of them in the game was 5 yards. Josh Brantley had to step up and play like the Josh Brantley every Ruston fan hoped they would see this year. Not only did he run for a game-high 134 yards and 3 TDs, but he also made some big-time throws when he needed to. The Brantley-to-Logan Malone connection was huge in the third quarter, and Ruston did what Ruston does in the fourth quarter, which was milk the clock and play great defense. Ruston's best players played great football. Jadon Mayfield showed why he will walk away as the most decorated player in school history, Ahmad Breaux and Geordan Guidry put pressure on the Zachary QB and made life uncomfortable for him, and Aidan Anding stepped up to the biggest challenge of his young career guarding Trey'Dez Green and making some big plays against him (as well as a game-changing punt return for a TD).
