Last year Ruston physically destroyed Zachary up front. Dutchtown last night was pushing Zachary around with their heavy package. Dutchtown doesn’t have speed at quarterback or running back at all. Ruston with the Jet and Brantley can take advantage of those holes. Ruston defense can stop Zachary run game with their front and linebackers making Spangler throw the ball. Big receiver did nothing for Zachary against Dutchtown. The front for Ruston can get to the quarterback for Zachary and put pressure on him to cause interceptions. Gonzales kid is actually better quarterback for Zachary. Ruston knocked out Holstein last year. Rusotn can hit on some pass plays they win 28-14.

I've seen Ruston five times this year, twice in the playoffs, and I went down to watch the Destrehan-Zachary game, so I've seen these two teams three times combined over the past three weeks.
The strength of Zachary's team was the play of its offensive line. The Broncos were more physical than Destrehan, and that's not easy to do. And of course Trey Green is a matchup nightmare. They like to get the ball in Tyson George's hands. He reminds me a lot of West Monroe's David Moore, though he's not as big, for Ruston fans looking for a comparison. The QB play was pretty average, and they played two. The RBs didn't wow me, nor did the receivers outside of Green. But they are very good up front, especially at left tackle with Miami commit Zavion Broussard. The matchup between him and Geordan Guidry is going to be so much fun to watch.
Defensively, Zachary has some good players, especially at free safety with Luke Wisham, but they aren't nearly as talented as Ruston's defense. They did a good job of shutting down Destrehan's running game, but I would be surprised if they can replicate that against Ruston. Zachary's defense this year is not Destrehan's defense last year. I really think Ruston is better across the board than the Broncos and should win this one by two or more scores.

Who pushed who around this afternoon? If that Zachary team shows up Ruston won't win. Zachary 35-14. Don't think it will be close. Regardless they will win. Ruston ain't playing at home and Zachary indoors will feast. I expect Green to put on a show and Zachary OL to dominate.

Did they dominate the last 12 minutes yes they did. You can’t ignore the first 36 minutes play that way against Ruston. Jam green off the ball and he can’t run by no one.

I would venture it's closer to the 37-22 Ruston score last year than it is 35-14 Zachary.

That same OL has a left tackle that has gained 50 pounds and became the best tackle in his class this season. The right tackle is 6'4 270 and didn't start last season and is WAY BETTER than the small kid they had last year. The right guard didn't start last year and is a DI player Clifton Webb. You don't watch games that is for DAMN sure or you will know their OL is WAY BETTER than last season in every phase. They are playing in NO indoors. This ain't in Ruston. This isn't in their backyard. Zachary has been there 4 damn times and won every time. They will be ready and it will be a game for awhile. You are in for a shocker.

What about Zachary defense who gave up 28 to Dutchtown who has zero speed at quarterback and running back. You feel confident in them stopping Ruston with that 3-4 scheme. Run right at theme not side to side with Zachary speed. 5 and 6 yards a pop. Get a few turnovers from Spangler it’s coming he panics under pressure. Shocker we shall see.

I believe Ruston better have a lead at half and scheme for a win. They think they will roll out there and just run their basic stuff all game and win they will be rudely awakened. They better mix up the pass as well. Dutchtown was excellent with that last night. Dutchtown also has a running QB and passing. Ruston has a one dimensional QB who throws lasers with every throw. No touch, just a laser downfield or short. He has played better against lesser competition but he will need to make the timely throws. This won't be some walk away win. And I do agree they will get pressure at times on Spangler or Gonzalez. But, if they don't have a lead late or it is close Zachary OL will wear them down like WE, Westgate, LCA, west monroe. Ruston lack of depth on defense will be a factor if they aren't ahead by two scores. Dutchtown losing today is wild.

A few points to mention:
Ruston played last year and lost. Those returning guys will want to avenge that and be hungry for it. Zachary’s seniors were sopres the last time they went and probably didn’t play at that time.
Ruston will be very physical and should be well coached. They will need to scheme up some over the top plays and call them at the right time. Defensively they will bring the same game plan as last year and Zachary doesn’t have the same explosive offense as in years past. Get physical with green on the line and bracket him. He was limited to one catch this week.
Now let’s talk about the thing you can’t see….bring back the turn fluke magic, horseshoe, rabbit foot, whatever you want to call it. He came out today that’s for sure. Ruston will need to be up three scores in the fourth to win. If not a fumble, interception, PI, etc will always aid the Broncos.

But #28 is an absolute difference maker who literally can flip the field or put up 6 with a leap in the air. He can run as well. I know Ruston will come out in their base and roll a safety over the top, cover 2 sink won’t work without pressure. George is a nice complement on the other side with pretty good speed and wins 1 on 1. If Ruston can guard him 1 on 1 all night that will be big. Thomas at RB isn’t great, but he will not shy away from what Ruston brings either. If I’m Zachary I practice a junk 50/bear front all week. I know it’s not easy and you gotta have grown men to run it but they cant let Ruston OL just work they way up to the backers easy, they are too light in the behind. I’ve doubted Zachary all damn year and they made state. Not sure if that says something about Zachary or the rest of the state but here we are

He gave Zachary the spark last week as well. Heck, they were only in with Dutchtown cuz he was thrown in at the right time in the first half. 13 played today as it fit their plan today. Props to the coaches for figuring that out. It only hurt them at Catholic. It was too late. 13 is a system qb. He runs the script plays well (screens, jump balls, quick outs. When that fails, 12 goes in and it’s a wide open more methodical offense. It’s actually worked out well surprisingly. But at what point against Ruston will it be too late. There was no jump balls completed to TreyDez against Woodlawn, Central, 1 against Catholic and none against Dutchtown. Ruston can stop that. Ruston gonna bring it so they better be ready. Feels like a ground and pound smash mouth game is gonna happen Saturday night. Zachary can pull weird stuff out at the dome. We’ve all seen that over the years. Good luck to both teams.

On what planet has 12 bailed Zachary out? St. Aug, who went like 2-8, only game he started 13 came in and saved the game for Zachary. Like what are you talking about? What spark did he give last night? He threw a 3 yard screen that 81 housed and an interception.

Ruston is the more talented team, is better coached, has a better coaching staff, and should win this game running away on paper. However, we said the same thing about Ponchatoula 2 years ago. Zachary wins by 1 possession despite losing on the stat sheet.

Regardless of how many times a team has won a championship, that's not a true indication of how they're playing now. That's why they play the games. Both teams are no doubt deserving of this opportunity to play for a state championship and will be ready to play. This game will be exciting and I can't wait for Saturday.

Man I didn’t “crap on a kid” when I say watching him play is “pretty ugly” I’m saying he’s a system guy, game manager. 12 can make more off schedule plays and is more of a playmaker but I also said Spangler playing works for them to an extent!! Sometimes they need the spark of a guy who can make plays outside of the system which is why he was brought in sometimes this season and sometimes you need a guy to just not lose the game for you. If I had to pick a QB I’m picking 12 I’m definitely not knocking Spangler though.

I expect this game to be more of a defensive battle. I think both defenses are playing well right now and I think the winning team will score less than 30 points. I don’t see either team running away with this game.
Should be a great matchup and one that everyone was hoping to see. Can’t wait for this one to kickoff.

That same team pummeled Zachary on the way to the Dome last season. Nobody has beaten Ruston handily in over two years since they laid an egg against West Monroe at the end of the 2021 season. (lost to Easton 20-19 in Week 1 this year in a game that was forfeited and lost 25-19 to Easton in OT and 17-10 to Destrehan in the Dome in '22).

However, I would not classify Aidan Anding as small. He's 6-0 and 180 with excellent leaping ability and ball skills. He's a legit Division I corner. I would expect they will shadow Green with Anding and bracket the FS Jacoriyan Crowe to his side, but will be interesting to see how DC Kyle Williams approaches this one.

Ruston has been consistent all year, and no way this game is not close. Zachary is a good team and matchup for Ruston. I am not sure what way i am leaning yet.

Something else that comes to mind also is that both teams went to the dome the last 2 years but neither of the starting quarterbacks played in those games. The old saying is that a good running game and defense travels well. I know a lot about Ruston’ running game and defense, but I’m interested to see how Zachary challenges Ruston's strength.
