Let me hear what your thoughts are for the preseason champions in select and non select(Still don’t agree, but who am I). Ruston will return a lot on the offensive side of the ball(skill positions) but are losing some straight dogs on defense. Let’s talk ball! Hopefully this thread will keep us going thru the summer with transfers, injuries, and coaching changes. I watched a lot of the Texas State Championships games this weekend and they play some great ball over there.

Hopefully this thread will keep us going thru the summer with transfers, injuries, and coaching changes. I watched a lot of the Texas State Championships games this weekend and they play some great ball over there. Ruston and Brantley showed out in state title game. He played his most complete game at the end and could possibly become a major DI QB prospect with a great summer showcase. That was what I expected from Ruston for most of the season. Maybe they could throw it like that all year and just never wanted or had to, I don't know and most don't, but they looked solid in the passing game. If their passing game continues to thrive and Hudson develops into the 5 star capability he has, they will be an offensive force next season and head on favorite in 5A. Ruston loses some great defensive players, but still return players at every level who were great: #1, #21, #94 and 63 come to mind. #97 could be special with more work and some weight. Tall rangy kid who is athletic off the edge. And everyone outside westgate, walker, and Neville lost the majority of their teams. Dutchtowns special run was senior dominated. Zachary as well. I believe once you get outside the three aforementioned teams (Neville, Ruston, and Westgate) the drop will be precipitous. WM, although losing a good bit of seniors, still has a lot of youth, how they develop and the QB position will be interesting to watch. Their OL as well. If you asked me who would be semifinalists right now I'd have Ruston, Westgate, Neville, and walker. Then destrehan, WM, Zachary, Central. I'll be watching how hahnville addresses their new HC position. They are still a hotbed and a 5A school. Get the right coach and make a connection with local community and kids will stay there and compete.

I know that there starting quarterback was a sopre and they had a talented group of young receivers. After I found out that there coach was recovering from his surgery, I wonder if his presence would’ve made a difference against Zachary. They were very talented, and have been a difficult matchup in 5A.

I also watched the texas championships. Man that Desoto was loaded beyond belief. Best looking high school football team I've seen all year and it's not even close. They have to finish top two or three in the country. I've got to see the team that beats them maybe bishop Gorman.

After I found out that there coach was recovering from his surgery, I wonder if his presence would’ve made a difference against Zachary. They were very talented, and have been a difficult matchup in 5A. That is an excellent theory. They looked the worst I've seen them in years against zachary and it was super surprising. They are usually and have been, monsters against the run, and they have a legit pass rusher outside in Cobbins. A great secondary unit with two highly recruited kids as well. Losing their coach may have hurt, but I definitely don't know the answer. As for next season, destrehan loses their best players off their defense this season in Cobbins, #89 amd #91 off their DLine, and Robinson in the secondary. They, like Ruston, rarely substituted up front on defense. Was too young and not ready. One kid played #58 I believe who was OK as a sopre. Their offense should be very very very good. Some exceptional talent coming up. Their defense should take a big hit though next season. Football is matchups as well due to personnel and coaching personnel as well. Destrehan hasn't matched up with Zachary, ever. As for Ruston they do each time. Ruston has played zachary to the very end or dominated each time. A case can be made Ruston should be 3-0 against zachary as well. 2019 season, the way that game ended at the end was ugly. Ruston got in to tie it. Matchups. Everyone has their kryptonite. Zachary is WM's; Ruston is Zachary's; Neville ALWAYS plays Ruston to the end; and Destrehan is rustons. Coaching and personnel. Why it is hard to win titles.

It is such an event. Desoto is as good of a team as I’ve seen. So much speed, they are so good up front. A very complete team.

Any thoughts on my 2 teams Zachary and Catholic? Catholic is still loaded, but what about Zachary? I heard they have a stud QB coming from the middle school. That true?

Zachary does have a big time QB prospect coming up, but freshmen don't win titles. Not at the QB position. Rare. I expect him to start if and when Gonzalez leaves. As he should. Zachary has a lot of talent still coming up. Especially up front. Zachary us notably not the biggest team on defense for years. That will change quickly. They had a 6'3" 310 pound behemoth inside on the freshman team who will be a big time player with more development. Calvin Duncan is his name. And they had a DE alongside him who was a tad smaller at 6'2" 260 or so. Their OL was huge and very good for a freshman team. They had a few skill guys but were mostly a trench dominated ball club. Zachary also has a 6'3" 270 pound sopre that wasn't ready at DT this season who will be starting likely next season. I see them scraping the 3-4 due to the size and depth on DL. They will likely move the undersized Hamilton #93, to DE and play the two big boys in the middle. Zachary's offense will be weak and average next year. Extremely young and all production gone except for one running back. Catholic was the best freshman team likely in Louisiana. They beat everyone. Including Zachary. Zachary us 2 years away from competing again and making a title appearance. Catholic will be there for years.

I hear That young qb is gonna be good though.

We’re going to take a step back in our new district with our QB and other top performers graduating… but 25 will be a better year with a new group of freshmen this year that beat St Charles Catholic, among others…

Lots of talent in Louisiana these days. 3rd place very likely.

Neville does not have a QB. They could not throw the ball against Central and got beat in the 2nd rd out at home. They are not a top 8 team in 5A next year.

Destrehan will be a lot of trouble. But anything before the transfer portal gets kicked into high gear is way premature. lol

Neville lost to a damn good football team too. I still believe had Neville won and held home field they would have made it to the dome. Dutchtown and Central both had zachary beat just as Ruston did. Many think dutchtown or Central would have given a better game. I am not one of those. Neville had a legit defense and they have shown to develop studs on defense and speed on offense. Their issue is having an identity on offense. They don't have one. They are good at a lot of things and great at none of it. They need to figure out what they want to be offensively now that McCarty has been gone for a few years. His team's were big on the OL, physical as hell, and had his best athlete at QB. Changed before he left when they brought in Taylor Burch. If they can figure out their offense and move forward they will be very good for the next few years.
