Captain Shreve (Shreveport) That is understandable since they are having a coaching change.

How is this kid eligible? I know where it said he lives in Calvary's zone, but he's going from his zoned public school to a private school - and even if that's not wrong, then clearly he's transferring for athletic purposes, so per LHSAA rules that you cannot transfer for athletic purposes, how does that not make him ineligible for that reason?

So, then by that admission, he was illegally playing at a public school (Captain Shreve) outside of the zone where he was supposed to be going to school? Also, my understanding has always been if you go back to your "home" zone you have to go to the PUBLIC school you're zoned for, how can he choose to go the private school?

That doesn’t mean he was “illegally” playing at Captain Shreve. Most schools in Caddo Parish have magnet programs that allow out of zone students to attend if accepted into one of their magnet programs (as long as they live within Caddo Parish) That would be why schools like Captain Shreve and Byrd are “select” even though they are public schools. Those magnet programs have existed for a long time now. Back when Byrd made their run to the Dome and lost to Rummel in 2013 quite a few of their starters lived in areas zoned for other schools such as Captain Shreve, Northwood, Huntington, etc.

Anyone is eligible to attend Calvary because Calvary is a private school, No matter where they previously went to school.
Enrolling at Calvary from Captain Shreve is not a transfer under LHSAA athletic rules if your home is inside Calvary zone,
Captain Shreve is a magnet school. Can take qualified students from outside Shreve zone.

That Magnet program can get kids from out of district but it also allows those kids to go home whenever they feel like it. Same goes for private schools. You have to sit out a year to go there but don’t have to sit out a year to go back.
