Ok. I know Lafafyette Christian is the overwhelming favorite. I'm not crazy lol. But EVERYBODY can agree, SU Lab is Louisiana high school basketball royalty. Joel Hawkins has more wins than any other coach in history. It feels good to see my school with the number 1 seed. And somebody tell Lafafyette Christian to stop being polar bears. (Only coming out for one season 😂) unless y'all haven't heard, we run 1A on the gridiron 👀😂😂😂😂 Just jokes. Looking forward to the playoffs. Go Lab!!!

now you know you only talking that noise because we got upset by Hanson Menorial....Kittens would have been one and done had they had to play the Lions again...(the first two meetings were flukes by the way). Seriously though: I'm picking Lab with the upset. Lab is a much better coached team than LCA. LCA got flat out out-coached in the championship last year, that would not happen to a Lab team. unlike most teams in 1A LCA won't be able to run on Lab. Lab plays much more crisp and disciplined in the half court game than LCA so I'm giving the edge to Lab.

I believe Smith will break it in the 2019 or 2020 season if he stays on that long. I think he wants the record and that's the biggest reason he's still coaching. A win Tuesday at Westlake will bring him to 971 wins, exactly 100 to go behind Hawkins.

And how many state championships does Smith have? Hawk has 12 if I'm not mistaken.

He has 2, 41 win seasons to help that avg and only 1 less than 30 win season since 2000. We are 32-3 right and favored to at least be in the final if not win 3A this year. So at the route he's goin, 2020 is probably the year. He has 6 titles, but the argument is that he's won 5 in 4A and 1 in 3A. At the times, he won those, 3A and 4A were the best basketball classes in the state. Especially the 4A ones.

Hawk has been retired for a decade and has since passed away. If someone catches his win total, good for them. Smith is still significantly behind so "don't count your eggs before they hatch." Records are meant to be broken. But the success that Hawk had during his career will NEVER be topped. For a 1A basketball team to be able to dominate all of the classifications in Louisiana the way Lab did and manage to be nationally ranked a lot is impressive and probably won't happen again. That Lab team in 2000 might be one of the best high school basketball teams in Louisiana history. Their only losts came out of state. Even dismantled 5A powerhouse Hammond which at the time was said the be the best team in Louisiana. Did Hawk and Smith ever play head to head? I'm checking my soureces now. I know Lake Charles Boston was scary back in the day in 3A though. Was at the top 28 every season. Peabody was nice too.

Just saw your post and knew he was coming up on the record. He's been winning at about a 33 per year clip. He's not the only one though. Danny Broussard and Jay Carlin, I believe Harvey Adger are all rightbbehind him but Smith leads the pack. No nobody can take anything away from Hawkins, he was great at all of his stops. Yea, Peabody and Southern Lab met while they were there. Id figure to guess more in the 90's tho. I know we did in the 2000s. I wanna say we beat yall in Lake Charles in 04 at the American Press Tourney. That team finished 5th nationally, 41-0, so I mean he's done that too. Both are highly touted and its really only a matter of if he stays on long enough to break it, cause we're loaded on underclassmen once our two studs leave this year. Next year I dont think is championship caliber with MPA coming to 3A, they may suprise but 2019 and 2020 will be.

He may get that record Hawk has won 13 titles we could not the one that Dunham took because they reported Marcus Spears for walking on the court with 1.5 seconds left in the game to clear the bench as a freshman! The highest we were ranked during the span was 12th in the nation! 1A ball was very good back then ! Produced Louisiana Legends like Gerald Honeycutt Paul Milsaps,Marcus Fizer, Antonio Hudson, Josh White the 1A thing didn't matter great teams
