Talking about Baton Rouge Magnet and Caddo Magnet got me thinking, why don't these two schools have football? Or baseball and basketball for that matter? What is up with these schools? Also why do non-football schools like French Settlement and Doyle and Rapides not have football? Can anyone shed some light on these questions?

Well, I don't know much about the big non-football schools, but I know French Settlement has been trying to start a football team for years but they can never secure enough funding to build or purchase anything necessary to have one. Doyle, on the other hand, used to have one a few decades ago but they never won games and had poor fan turnout so they ditched football in favor of other sports, similar to Mt. Hermon a few years ago.
In my personal opinion Rapides High could potentially be a 2A powerhouse if they had a football program, seeing as they usually perform very well in other sports.
There are also a few B and C schools that could potentially be good if they started football. Anacoco, Zwolle, Midland, and Summerfield are the ones I would like to see the most.
I guess it comes down to location, funding, and community support. Over time things may change and new football teams will be created and older ones shut down.

doyle and french settlement are just normal B sized schools that grew to 2A without starting a football team...
the magnet schools make a conscious decision not to play football or other major sports, feeling like they detract from the academics at those places

Midland is a basketball town and doesn't even have any other sports. There's some schools that just don't have the money and there's some communities that just dont care enough about football. Dont understand it myself but oh well lol.

Baton Rouge High deems itself as the school of excellence in the capital city and they just don't want football. I'm positive if they wanted to they could. Funding wouldn't be an issues at all

Caddo Magnet will very likely never have a major sport. They don't want it. Their focus is almost exclusively academic. They do offer, what I call, "Olympic type" sports.
They'd need to be in an Ivy League type classification to be competitive. I don't know their numbers right off, but I'd guess they'd be Div1. If they played football, they'd be last in Div1 every season. It just wouldn't work to their benefit.

Class B schools have the same enrollment numbers as 1A. The only difference is they don't have football teams. So theoretically any class B school should have the numbers to play football. It just comes down to money and the desire of the school and community to actually get it started.
Baton Rouge High had a football team until (I think) the mid 70s when they became strictly a magnet school. As LivingstonNerd mentioned, Doyle also had a football team from at least the mid 60s to the mid 80s. We played them a couple of times before they shut it down.

I might have wanted to try golf, wrestling, or soccer if we were allowed to have it it also worked the other way in that they took a high 4A-low 5A enrollment of non-athletes that would have put the other schools in bigger classes.

Dont understand it myself but oh well lol. Midland had football till the mid 70's. They had the ultimate self serving principal who also was the basketball coach. He did away with it. They are a 2A school and allowed by his self serving clones to play down to B because they don't have football. They also have school only 4 days a week so he could play golf on Friday. His son is currently the coach

But I tend not to like self serving principals but that seems to be the norm. His son is the principal now. Chip off the old block!
