So.
this deal that I've been working on for me (and family, obviously) to move back to Texas has FINALLY come through.
I loved my job with LSU, but it just didn't pay anywhere near what I needed to be making. We made it work and I really loved the job. I loved being outside and feeling the grass and dirt beneath my feet. I loved that my bosses were dedicated to research and that I got to help. The insurance and such were as good as any that I've ever had. But the money... Lord knows, the money was terrible.
For those that didn't know (almost all of you), I was working at the LSU Pecan Research Station up here in Shreveport. It's a very small research station and when I left a week ago, we were down to me and 1 professor. Now they're down to 1 professor and a part time summer worker.
So I'll be leaving for Texas this weekend and I start my new job with a private company Monday morning. They're paying me a solid hourly rate that I could never make in Louisiana and they're also paying me $5000 to move.
But fret not, fellas. I'll still be coming here and talking football with y'all. You can take the guy out of Louisiana, but you can never take the dirty redneck from NWLa out of the guy. Really though. I won't have a dog in the hunt at all, but I still love my state and love football over here.

well, I made it to Central Texas. Good times so far. But a lot left to do. I'm living out of my suitcase for the time being. Trying to find a place, in the right school zone, over here has really become a chore. Apartments are super expensive. It'll all work out. So far, we're looking at a place kind of between Cedar Park and Lakeway, so the kid will be at Vandegrift HS if that's where we land at.

It looks like our boy will be attending Vandegrift HS over here. They are a relatively new school and play 6A sports. Oddly enough, this school opened for all 4 years of HS the year we left (2012). In that time, they have jumped from 5A to 6A and are at capacity now. But it's supposed to be a good school. It just has a population pushing 2K or more.
The boy is at his grandparents for another 2 weeks, so he doesn't know that will be his school yet. Oddly enough, the first football game he ever went to was his new schools first ever football game. crazy how life works out sometimes.
