If Riverdale moves up that would they split the New Orleans are 5A teams up into two districts or make one 9 team district.

Not sure anybody would want a 9 team district. That would only leave 2 Non-District games. Splitting into 4 and 5 team Districts is more likely. Then again it would make scheduling pretty easy for those teams if they did form a 9 team District. 9 team Districts are not unheard of but there wasn't a single 9 team District made during the last classification. It will depend on what the schools themselves want too. But i think its more likely they split the teams into 2 Districts.

But since we have the split, it wouldn't be fair to have non select teams play an entire district of select teams. One or two is different. If Riverdale moves up, so probably does Helen Cox too and there's two 5 team districts. If not Helen Cox, maybe they grab Hahnville, Destrehan, and East St. John

the East bank 8-5A schools- East Jefferson, Bonnabel, Grace King, Chalmette
the West bank 8-5A schools- Higgins, John Ehret, West Jefferson, Landry Walker
for the smaller sports, East Jeff once tried to get the district split into two, one for each bank, but the LHSAA denied it

Why not add St. Paul's to the Catholic League? That would make a 5/5 district. I do not think St. Paul's wants any part of that...

So the handbook says this: (Empasis mine)
Maybe I read this wrong, but this to me means that if a District has more than 5 teams, they can decide if all teams have to play each other or not. So a 9 team district can play less than 8 District games IMO.
It goes on to say if a district is 5 or fewer, they must play a minimum of 5 (which doesn't make sense) or round-robin; which essentially means all teams must play each other one time.
Then it goes on to allow districts with 11 or more to split up and play sub-districts. (which technically also doesn't make sense since there are plenty of Districts with 5 or 6 teams, so it would make better sense to just make separate districts in the first place, which I think they do. Has there ever been a district who fielded 11 or more football teams?

Kinder was once put in an 11 team district not sure of all who it consisted of but I know the Jamboree counted as a district game. I believe it was in the 70's

I believe it was in the 70's back in the day when there were 4 classifications, Chalmette won the 1968 district 4-3A championship, so if the rest of the state only had 3 districts outside the NOLA area, they probably had such districts
they had districts divided with divisions as recently as 1990, bc we were put in one in the two years between when we left the Catholic League and class 5A was founded
