Offensive coordinator Chris Kennedy accepts a position at a different school, and long time Red Devil assistant Seth Ortego accepts an administrative position in another parish. Craig Stevens told the Daily World he plans to go back to the Wing T style offense from two years ago since many of the kids are familiar with the plays and terminology. He’s interviewing to replace the two departed coaches.
If you would have told me this program would be hard to succeed at 15 years ago I would have laughed in your face. I feel bad for Craig...finally get to lead the team you coached for so long only to get hamstringed by different problems. The fan base is already grumbling.

Port Barre reminds of that other Red Devils program that was always a District Contender and a playoff regular that occasionally made deep playoff runs. But that's what happens at public schools, talent is cyclical. Especially small town high schools.

It happens a lot to public and private schools. and not just in small towns. There are many reasons that this happens.

What killed Port Barre is when the federal judge ordered a desegregation plan for the parish. Port Barre picked up a lot of kids that weren't athletes and not very good students. They should be in 2A and be competitive. The last coach let that once proud program fall very hard.

They probably will drop back to 2A though when the schools reclassify next spring.

Port Barre is 2-4 years from being a factor in district play, providing they get some consistency in the coaching staff. Losing their OC this late is tough, but losing Seth Ortego is huge. He was a big part of that staff.

It's poopty losing coaches right before the season but honestly, you guys are probably better off without Kennedy that's all I'll say.

The offense didn’t fit the personnel and went completely belly up after the QB broke his collarbone.
