I was just wondering if any of the OG followers could tell me how big their Offensive Linemen are this year. I heard Mangham’s coach on the radio a couple of days ago and he was talking about how they were “the biggest bunch of sweet potato fed kids he’s ever seen”. That may not be the exact quote he used but it was somewhere along those lines. I know when OG came to Haynesville in 2016, their OL had to average at least 6’3 315lbs. Even their TE looked to be 6’3 300lbs. We have a few guys upfront with good size and was looking to see how we stack up against the behemoths that OG has every year.

We need more sweet potatoes! Big guys upfront is always great to have, but if you don’t have a lot of beef in the trenches it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t win games. As long as you can find some guys that can fire off the ball and understands how to win he leverage battle you can be successful. Ideally, Haynesville likes their Center and Guards to be around 5’9 170lbs because we do a lot of pulling with the Guards and like to get our Center out on a LBer.

A line that averages 300 lbs in small school football isn’t as good as looks on paper, especially when your pulling guards nearly every play and some are going both ways. A good pulling guard is just a full back in a different number, who won’t show up on the stat sheet.

Speed, quickness, and technique can beat a big OL though.

From what I understand, OG’s offensive line isn’t a huge bunch. But they are well coached and disciplined. 1A has a few big o-lines. WSJ is impressive. Kentwood isn’t big but they’re darn good. And the other team in 1A has great lineman 👀😂😂😂😂 Not to be rude, but the top 5 teams in 1A could definitely compete to win a 2A championship. A lot of talent and big names.

OG is very big on both sides of the ball im not sure what you heard Jklee but y'all are the only 1-a line I look to be bigger on the offensive side. Nobody will be bigger in the Dline. The kid from Delhi charter is really that big. Every bit of 6-4 300lbs and he has been really good since he was a freshman. I think he was all state as a freshman actually or honorable mention. The d line will go about 300 across all 3-4 down lineman

Because with the exception of Kardell going to defense on special occasions, our lineman don’t go both ways.

We have always had big lines for 1-a and the last 3-4 years have been even bigger than usual. Our lineman never play both ways. Well as far back as I can remember we have had like 4-5 players total play both ways and those were D-1 athletes. I think it has been since the 80's since we regularly played guys both ways but 64 really could probably confirm that. We have always had the numbers to play guys on one side of the ball. Wyatt Rawls is the one exception this year he is a all state linebacker and an Allstate caliber fullback. They try to get him some rest letting him sit some offensive series so even he doesn't play both ways really more like 1 1/2.

Our DL looks something like this: DE 6’6 275lbs DT 6’2 305lbs DT 6’0 295lbs DE 6’0 215lbs Unfortunately for us, we have about 7 or 8 guys that go both ways this year. It’s normal for us to play 5 or 6 guys both ways every year so a couple more than normal this year. Our OL: LT 6’6 275lbs LG 5’8 165lbs C 5’11 270lbs RG 5’10 245lbs RT 6’2 305lbs This is an above average sized OL for us. Normally we have guys the size of our left guard upfront.

That is some really big lineman for 1-a. If y'all have the usual speed and athleticism to go with it watch out

Like I said before though, majority of our guys have to go both ways. Our depth is my main concern. We can’t afford to have anybody go down with injury (knock on wood)

I think about getting wore down. But when losing a player means your really lose two starters that is maybe even a bigger issue. I guess since OG has never really had to deal with that is why it has never crossed my mind

What kind of speed do y’all have this year? . Pretty good. We are never gonna have the speed of yall or Kentwood or wsj but when we have our best teams the gap isnt as big as usual lol. This is one of those years. We have 3-4 guys on offense with good speed and another bull at fullback in Wyatt Rawls who has good burst to get in seams. We have more speed in the secondary than usual. We had 3 or 4 freshman start games in the secondary last year and by the end of the year they were really coming together. I think we will be as solid against passing teams as we have been in a while
