Notre Dame @ LaGrange- Been I rivalry of sorts over the last few seasons but the Pios have pretty much owned the Gators in this series. I don't look for too much to change. Winner:Pios
Rayne @ Welsh- this game was not played last year due to rain. Defending 2A Champion Welsh starts their quest to bring the bone back home for the second year in a row. Granted I don't know a lot about Rayne this year but Welsh returns a slew of talent. The Hounds defense will keep them in the game but I think Rayne will be a little much while Welsh breaks in a new QB. (Im factoring depth here) Winner:Rayne
Kinder @ Oakdale- After what I seen in the Jamboree last night there isn't much to talk about here. Oakdale will probably be able to move the ball through the air a little against an inexperienced secondary but overall Kinder's speed once again will be too much for the Warriors. Winner: Kinder
Lake Arthur @ Elton- Lake Arthur is looking forward to what is believed to be a real good season. Elton will be lewarning a new system and will have to get aggressive in the trenches with their new offense if not it'll be a rough night. Inexperience and depth will play a factor here and except for up front Lake Arthur doesn't havbe to worry about that too much this week. Winner: Lake Arthur
Ville Platte @ Sacred Heart- cross town Rivalry week one. I don't know too much about either one of these teams so can't comment too much except what I have heard from Jamborees and scrimmage. Winner: Sacred Heart

I saw a good bit of the LaGrange - Sulphur jamboree game film. LaGrange has a good looking team with a lot of obvious talent. I’m expecting a tough game next week @ LaGrange.

Ville Platte will struggle mightily early in the season. Several people have said that they’ve only had 13-15 kids out before this week. Sacred Heart and Pine Prairie will both hang 40 on them.

I've heard some good things about Lagrange as well vbut I feel Lewie has their number. And after the showingf ND had against C arncro it's hard for me to count ND out

They have a few more than that. There's some good small-school players on the team. I saw them last night. Had about 40ish on the sidelines, but they didn’t show up until this week. Their JV on Thursday looked like they’ve never lined up before...it was taking 2-3 minutes every snap to call plays and line kids up on offense. The varsity was slightly better, but looked lost on who to block. Pass plays were literally hopes and prayers. I do hope they get better, but the first few weeks are going to be bad.

Ville Platte was one of the only teams that could run with us when we played them in basketball. They were full of athletes on the court. It seems like they would have had a little better football team.

Notre Dame at LaGrange - might be close early but it won't be close after half time. LG is replacing 17 starters and has a new head coach.
Rayne at Welsh - After last night i see Rayne winning this by a of couple of scores. Think people underestimated how important Zach Hayes was to Welsh the last 2 years. Rayne did lose a lot of production at RB. Never know til the game is actually played though. Welsh will get better each week. They have a good nucleus of players back.
Kinder at Oakdale - Well we saw what happened last night. We pretty much dominated them. A holding call on goal-to-go( i forget which down) kept the score closer but that wasn't a 4 quarter game so it'll be interesting to see how our young guys hold up in a 48 minute contest.
Lake Arthur at Elton - LA has the edge in numbers and experience. Elton is learning a new offense. Advantage Tigers but don't count the Indians out in this one.
Ville Platte vs Sacred Heart - SH was 8-3 last year. VP was 3-8. So i'll go with Sacred Heart but neither outcome would surprise me.

ND is replacing a bunch of starters as well. Nothing is guaranteed...except that LC officials will be awful.

True, but every year is different. Alot of skill guys to replace, so that's a bit of a concern. It's just not real until that opening kickoff.

Here's my follow up: Notre Dame- As expected Notre Dame will continue to be the force they always are.
Welsh-i was dead wrong on this pick and Welsh showed they they can run the ball as well as throw it. They put the game in the offensive line's hands and they took it over. Welsh defense performed as I had expected. Welsh is definitely a contender again this year.
Kinder- Win over Oakdale was anything but impressive. After a very slow start Kinder got a little more physical late In the game. Also flexed a little on the passing game as Hayes Fawcett had 2 passing Touchdowns. A step up in competitio n next week will give us a little bett st look at where we are. Still have hill to climb before district IMO.
Lake Arthur- the Tigers showed that they can score points and can win not exactly the strongest opponent in Elton but at the same time the Tigers took care of business.
Ville Platte- the lone team in the district without a win this week. Couild be a long season for the Bulldogs

Thoughts on kinder vs oakdale...Oakdale came into the game playing tough and had the size advantage up front. Oakdale has 2 dt's that are 300 plus, and the de's are 230 to 250, plus their best linebacker is the longino kid who is 6'2 240, so we were outsized from the start. Looked to me that they started to give up after kinder got up by about 20, but if coach g can get them to play 4 quarters, they can be a good team. We opened up some great holes despite being outsized, and having a defensive tackle diving the ball. Many times the dive back was getting 5 yards per carry, and our defense looked like they were quick to the ball. Our youth showed up several times in silly penalties and blown assignments but that is expected, as a team every year we take time to put it together. We still have 3 starters out but played alot of people which will benefit us in district play. We not where we were last year as a team, but this team has the fire that we didnt have last year. Iowa will be a tough one next week but as long as we improve i think we have a shot. Good luck to the warriors. Go K.

Rayne lost alot more than the Running Backs. It showed last night. They lost some defensive and offensive players to graduation too. Welsh returns most everyone. However, in due time I'm optimistic they will win at least 5-7 games. A few teams on the schedule are better from last year, Westgate, LCCP, Eunice
