I know it's still football season but for those who like basketball there will be a really good basketball tournament going on in Lake Charles next week. The 2nd Annual "Showdown in the Lake" will take place at Hamilton Christian Academy and LaGrange High School from December 3-5. There will be great teams and great individual players participating in this tournament (all being from Louisiana).
Three defending State Champions will be participating in this tournament. They are 2015 5A State Champion Scotlandville, 4A State Champion Landry-Walker and 1A State Champion Madison Prep. Two teams that lost in their class' state championship game will also be participating. They are 2A Runner-Up Lakeview and 1A Runner-Up Lafayette Christian Academy.
Ruston, Richwood, Ouachita Parish and Carroll will represent North Louisiana. New Iberia and St. Martinville will represent the Teche area. Along with Lafayette Christian Academy, Northside will represent the Hub City and West Jefferson will represent the Crescent City along with Landry-Walker. Lastly, Washington-Marion, LaGrange will represent Lake Charles along with tournament host Hamilton Christian Academy.
The schedule for Thursday, December 3, 2015, is as follows:
Hamilton Christian Academy Gymnasium 4:00 Madison Prep vs Carroll 5:30 Lafayette Christian vs West Jefferson 7:00 Hamilton vs Lakeview 8:30 Washington-Marion vs New Iberia
Lagrange High School Gymnasium 4:00 Scotlandville vs St. Martinville 5:30 Ouchita vs Northside 7:00 Landry-Walker vs Richwood 8:30 Lagrange vs Ruston

LATigerFan, some of those Lake Arthur Tiger teams of the 90s could have competed in this tournament. What's happened to the Lake Arthur program?

Thats a question i wish i had an answer to. Our 90s and early 2000 teams were some of the best in the state. Our late 90s could compete with almost anyone in the state in any class. We just dont have any talent at the school anymore we have no height at all the kids just arent the same. Our girls program has been great lately but the boys are hard to watch.

Back then our guards were 6'1' or 6'2' with inside guys going 6'6" now we lucky if we get one player over 6 foot and the talent level just isnt there. Back then they stayed at the park during the offseason playing with kids from Jennings now they to lazy.

Hamilton Christian got whipped by Jennings a couple nights ago. When the coaches met at half court before the game Hamiltons coach told the Jennings coach we are glad yall made the trip but yall are about to lose lol.

Hamilton played Jennings with half of its players out. Two of them (starting center and power forward) came back two days later and it made a huge difference. They knocked off last year's 2A State Runner-up, Lakeview, in the first round of the "Showdown in the Lake" tournament on Thursday. Lakeview returned all but one starter from last year's team and features Arkansas signee Adrio Bailey who stands 6'8" forward and is a great player. They would have lost again without those two players against Lakeview.
Funny stuff about the coach. He must have felt he could beat Jennings without big men.
