Pine Prairie @ Church Point
The Panthers got a much needed win over 4A Beau Chene, which will give them some confidence over a three-headed monster Bears team that silenced critics with a big win over Kaplan. Pine can hope to keep Church Points offense off the field, but it’ll be hard to run the ball on a very physical and big defensive line. Bears take this one.
Mamou @ Port Barre
The battle for second to last place starts in the Devil’s den as the Demons, who lost 27-0 to St. Ed’s, heads over to face off against a scrappy Port Barre squad that lost to OC 18-13. This is actually a mismatch as the Devils have a healthy squad breaming with confidence compared to a broken Mamou. Port Barre notches win number 2.
Eunice @ Crowley
The first heavyweight bout of the evening features a resurgent Bobcats team that picked on Rayne, and the Crowley Gents who lost a shootout with Cecilia. If Eunice contains their speed, Crowley will have a long night trying to slow down the Bobcat’s option wing-t. Eunice will edge this one out.
Northwest @ Iota
Heavyweight bout two features two squads with question marks. Can Northwest, who beat up on West St Mary, carry the same success in a tough district 5-3A this year? And is Iota, who blew out Lake Arthur, the team to beat in 5-3A? This is a big test for both teams, but Iota will have the referees at home. Bulldogs in a tight one.

Pine Prairie vs Church Point- your assessment is pretty close. Every time I've seen the panthers play, they get better. But they are still a long way off. They just don't have the numbers to stay with the top end of the district. Coach Prince is a great guy and a good coach, but he is in a tough situation over there. It will be a long bus ride and a short game.
Mamou vs Port Barre- The Red Devils are showing some signs of life. They hung with OC. The program and school have fallin on very hard times. Really both schools are pretty much the same. They are both shells of their former selves. Mamou is in for a very long season.
Eunice vs Crowley- This used to be a great showdown in 4a. Both schools have great history. It will come down to who can make one more play. Crowley at home is tough to go against. But I think Eunice gets a late big play to win it.
Northwest vs Iota- Northwest have enjoyed recent success. Iota is up and coming. Iota surprised everybody last year. Northwest has speed and play makers all over the field. Can Iota cover them and pound the ball down their throat. I just don't think the Bulldogs have enough to get this one. It will be close, but Northwest just has too many athletes to contain

The only real surprise here was how bad Northwest was curb stomped by the Bulldogs. I figured the Raiders would be able to do something on offense. Guess not having August to bail you out is going to hurt more than they thought.
Pine Prairie looked rough against the Bears. Offensive miscues and poor tackling was the story all night. Thankfully we have Port Barre and Mamou to get back on track. I think the BC win gave us some false confidence.
