Basile (2-1) @ St. Edmund Catholic (2-1) Last Week Basile def. Sacred Heart 13-6 St. Edmund def. Mamou 27-0
Big game, should decide the district. Blue Jays have to find a way to stop, or at least slow down, Bubba Reed on not one but both sides of the ball. First district game should decide the district championship to be honest (as much as I hate to admit it's between these two).
Projection: Basile 20-14
Grand Lake (1-2) @ Elton (0-3) Last Week Elton lost to Rosepine 43-20 Grand Lake def. Highland Baptist 31-8
Indians have had a rough start to the season, but against some stiff competition from 2A Top 10 Rosepine and a very surprising Lake Arthur and a big and tough East Beauregard. Hornets had a good Vinton team and a resurgent Gueydan with one win against a putrid Highland Baptist squad. If Elton wants to get back on the right track this game is a must win. Grand Lake looking for their first victory over Elton since restarting their football program.
Projection: Elton 30-13
Hamilton Christian (0-3) @ South Cameron (0-3) Last Week HCS lost to Covenant Christian 39-0 SC lost to Gueydan 34-0
Loser finishes last and winner finishes second-to-last in a year which is looking like a swan song for both football programs at these schools. Will be strange seeing this matchup as an October Class B vs. Class C basketball matchup.
Projection: HCS 16-8
Merryville (0-3) @ Oberlin (3-0) Last Week Merryville lost to East Beauregard 42-31 Oberlin def. Oakdale 20-3
Merryville hasn't had it too easy through non-district play while Oberlin looked like they were on a trip to Carlo's Bakery. Officially putting Oberlin on upset alert but not picking against them.
Projection: Oberlin 24-13

I think Grand Lake will surprise a few people. They had a losing record but played everyone close last year. Originally I had them finishing 6th I believe but I will bump them up to 5th, possibly tie for 4th. The Basile-St. Eds game may very well decide the winner but Oberlin could cause problems. I know HC are low on numbers but have athletes. Before the season, I had them finishing 7th. St. Eds will be without their fullback from last year(he transferred to Iota) but still have Brad Miller at QB. He is very mobile. St. Eds runs a lot of misdirection and tend to spread the field. Oberlin is the only one sitting undefeated but hasn't really played quality teams in non district but no doubt they are riding on momentum. Basile may have bubba but they also have David as wb/ss. Also in the backfield is Jay Roberts, not a speedster but a solid kid. Basile's defense is pretty stiff. They have allowed 34 points this season(28 coming from Iota and 6 from Sacred Heart) but can put an end to a good drive. St. Eds has only allowed 22 points in the first 3 games with wins over Hanson and Mamou. Their lone loss comes from Sacred Heart 10-3. Elton has had a little run of bad luck losing Gavin as their starting QB but has played a pretty tough non district schedule.
1. Basile-St. Eds 3. Oberlin 4. Elton-Grand lake 6. Merryville 7. HC 8. South Cameron
I expect a shake up between 4th-7th though.

Hamilton has good talent, they just don’t have the depth to compete with the top 3 or so teams. I saw them in the jamboree and it looked like they only had around 18-20 total players. Elton could have competed without the bad injury luck. I agree that Basile/St. Ed’s will likely decide the district champion but Oberlin is big and stingy on defense also. It’s always fun to predict this district, most of the kids know each other and the title has been spread around plenty. Hopefully everyone stays injury-free from here on out.

Elton is like a trama ward right now. Two season ending knee injuries in week one, two carted off in an ambulance, about three or four more that have been off the field more than on with injuries.

Build a baseball field over the weekend and you can get about a dozen football players back on Monday. Just saying

No offense to HC but when you have to make excuses for why you lost to South Cameron you may not be that great. HC just doesn't have the the depth they probably won't win a game.

Isn't SC about to shut down their program because of low numbers? I don't think depth issues work as an excuse against them. Im sure losing those players hurt but if you want to be competitive you have to win that game.

Hamilton Christian is in the same predicament... that stinks, has another school opened up that's taking kids from them?

Hamilton Christian is in the same predicament... that stinks, has another school opened up that's taking kids from them? When Lake Charles-Boston closed Hamilton benefited from being the only school left in that neighborhood. Then Lake Charles Prep opened and filled that role that LCB left and Hamilton tried to fill. Now there is a public school option in that neighborhood again and from what I understand LCCP has better academics and more to offer than HCS.
