This is the beginning of a complete split about to come, this isn't a surprise, one thing I know for sure after talking to a lot of coaches on the Select side is they were going to vote this down. This all started about 3 weeks ago and let me explain to everyone why the LHSAA is scrambling now.
All State Sugarbowl CEO Jeff Hundley spoke at the New Orleans QB Club meeting 2 Tuesdays ago, he was asked a question about the LHSAA situation, he responded with the fact that they (All State Sugarbowl sponsorship) were in the business of supporting all kids of this state, not just public and not just private) he mentioned that he himself talked to Bonine about everyone just trying to smoke a peace pipe and do whats best and get back together. He also mentioned the fact that this is the last year of the Sugarbowl contract sponsoring the Football, Basketball and Baseball State Championships.
His comments that day, made the LHSAA release a statement the following day, which im sure many of you saw with the LHSAA "giving a olive branch" to the select schools to participate in the superdome. This basically put the LHSAA in a horrible situation because they cant afford to lose this sponsorship, the problem is the Selects (Majority) dont want that, and the LHSAA was hoping this would be a start of things to come back together.
My inklings are simple, this all started with the Publics wanting nothing to do with the Selects, it forced the LHSAA in a bad situation and had to uphold the multiple state championships on each side. Now their are more publics realizing that this isnt whats best for the LHSAA and themselves and as you can tell with the survey released by the LHSAA, the gap in which the publics voted to split away originally, isnt as wide spread as it was before. Now the selects are becoming the problem, because they are pulling away from the LHSAA and the coming together, based off of this vote of not to put all state championships in one place.
I asked 5 coaches whos principals are on record stating back a few years ago when they voted on the split, they decided to split away(Public principals), now they are willing to do whats best and get back together, but like a few of them told me, it will be even harder now and it looks like the end is near.

Great post and spot on. But why do you think getting back together will be harder with separate championships? I don’t see that. Not playing in the dome is a tough decision but a needed one. To orchestrate 9 games and make everyone happy is a joke. Money is an issue for private schools so they are doing what’s best for them. Money is not an issue for public schools so the Dome works fine for them. The lhsaa will have the Dome plus 10% of the gate from the private championships

Posted this 3 years ago under a different discussion. I agree with you for the near future but, as more time passes and as more teams compete for and/or win state championships in any sport, or even think they have a chance where they didn't before, it will be harder to bring everyone back together. I believe that is why there was such a rush to do so quickly. Well that and money. But if enough time passes, the split remains, and the select schools don't like it, don't think for a minute that they can't and won't make a move with enough time to plan and money. They can form a new association a whole lot quicker than non-select folks the same way they created a new school when there local public school wasn't good enough. And today, you can run the whole association off a laptop and a good backup system. I would love to see things back together where everyone is "satisfied with" and playing under the same rules. But that animal has never existed and it still doesn't today. I'm convinced it never will as long as LHSAA is the only option for teams to compete. They've had long enough. I don't have all the answers but here goes. Select schools form your association. Set your rules. Invite teams private and public alike with the understanding that these are the rules. Anyone who doesn't like them, don't join. Stay where you are. LHSAA and those that choose to or have to stay with them. Keep your rules or change them. Invite teams to stay with the understanding that these are the rules etc... The very thing that we all claim to be looking for is what will solve the issues we have today...Competition...not monopoly. But regardless, plan a new association well with this in mind. Based on some of the statistics I've seen on this board which appear believable, I would reason that most of the schools in the state are public therefore most of the kids go to public schools (captain obvious strikes again!!!). I think it is also safe to say that most of the talent that colleges are looking for still goes to public schools. If you want to compete against that talent, you better find a way to make them happy too. Hope somewhere in this post is a clue to not having to worry about another association. Thoughts?

The lhsaa will have the Dome plus 10% of the gate from the private championships The time is approaching when the 10% gate will be a problem too. It's kind of sticks in the craw of the private school principals to have to pay to an organization that effectively wants to eliminate you altogether. Same goes for the use of private scores to bolster the ACT scores of the parish. For example, Lafayette parish, cause I knows a little bit about it, had a composite ACT of 19.1 and trending downward that average is for every student in the parish, but they do not delineate publicly that it includes the scores from the private and home school kids. They want to include those because it raises the overall average of the district. With out STM with an ACT 27 average, Ascension 27 Average, ESA 28 Average, Teurlings 26 Average and John Paul the Great 24 Average yet the public schools are stuck in the mid to upper teens what is the actual ACT average of the public schools? No one will say because it would cause a revolt.
