I'm hoping that this week I'm starting to get a feel for this district. No game of the week this week, but anyway, on with the predictions
Centerville vs Thomas Jefferson
TJ is 2 classes higher in classification, but make no mistake, they're similar in caliber to Centerville's first two opponents. Their Maxpreps page says TJ, before this most recent game, lost their jamboree 21-0...to Grace King. Centerville is replacing a lot this year and isn't a good team, but I'd still think they have enough on the team to win this game
22-10 Centerville
Central Catholic @ Ville Platte
CC is coming off of a tough loss to a Patterson team that was better than I gave them credit for. That 9-3A is going to be seriously tough this year, so fortunately for CC they get a game this week not involving one of those teams and instead getting a game where they'll be able to put in JV by mid third quarter. I'll say the JV both scores and lets up a TD and assume VP doesn't have a kicker this year
56-6 Central Catholic
Covenant Christian vs Ben Franklin
Neither team is very good this year, Covenant mostly due to numbers and Ben Franklin as seen by giving up 47 to an Ascension Christian team who probably hasn't gotten their new triple option offense fully down yet. Decided to look at Maxpreps tape, I still have no clue. Covenant has a couple of decent defensive players and Ben Franklin tries to have some sort of balance on offense, but I truly think this will be a game of two teams who combine to win 1 game all year, unfortunately. If I had to pick...
26-18 Ben Franklin
Hanson Memorial @ St Martin's Episcopal
Hanson's coming off of a lower scoring than I expected loss to Westminer, while St Martin's is coming off of a blowout loss to a solid Catholic of Point Coupee squad. Who do I expect to bounce back? After looking at a few clips of St Martin's video, they can run the ball which will give Hanson a lot of trouble, but their defense isn't the most sound and is susceptible to deep threats such as #7 for Hanson. This one should actually be high scoring and I'll say
35-30 St Martin's
Highland Baptist vs Beekman Charter
after a hard fought win in Plaquemine against St John, Highland now gets a much easier game at home against a Beekman team travelling from north Louisiana who's struggling mightily. Beekman might have covid issues, but if the game is played I'll go
42-6 Highland
Vermillion Catholic vs Ascension Catholic
Ascension Catholic is coming off of an impressive 30-8 win over Hannan while VC is coming off of a very unexpected 43-0 loss to Abbeville. Barring turnovers and even with this game being in Abbeville, this could get ugly fast
35-3 Ascension Catholic
