Longtime viewer, first time poster to the board. I'm a fan and alumni of the West Monroe Rebels. As stated with a recent poll, obviously when WM loses it brings many reactions. One common theme I see is that the reason for their recent struggles is not adapting to a more spread it out offense. I couldn't disagree more. There are too many teams still winning multiple championships with a power-I/split back formation. Running triple option, counter, power, toss sweep, and Play action pass. They are doing at the highest level in 5-A as well. This type of offense is designed to be played with great defense and wear the opponent down throughout the game if you aren't as athletically advantaged as your opponent.
When I see WM play now, it's nowhere near the same offense they were running when winning titles and I don't understand how fans can sit back and say that it is. When WM is in the gun and they are playing to the hands of their opponent bc you are essentially trying to out athlete their athletes...when WM is undercenter it appears that the option is not being read anymore. Reading the option is what makes that offense work. Maybe they are struggling to teach Reading the offense, but I know there are still some great coaches there fully capable of doing it. But that is my 2 cents, WM used to make you respect all 3 phases of the triple option and burn you with the pitch and play action when you committed to much to the box. To me that and it seems the culture of the program has definitely changed since coach shows passing ( just seems to be no energy).
But I do want to hear responses overall on the topic, and not just West Monroe.
Is it an outdated offense that you can no longer win with in today's HS football which seems to be a NO in most WMs fans eyes
