I thought Winnfield wasn’t going anywhere. Last year was a fluke, this year has exposed the horrific coaching that has been around since Bankston was fired. Haven’t had a solid staff since Pyles. Even his last couple years his staff was cut by super. Bankston had to deal with cuts and super deciding his staff. Talent pool was low his few years as well. Watson is an abomination to coaching. Several of us pointed out last year how bad he was regardless if the record. Happens to win 9 games because he was loaded with talent. We won 9 solely on talent. Any time the talent was equal or better we were dominated. Most of that talent graduated and we back to the dumpster.

I have to say that I think Watson is truly an anomaly to coaching. Followed Pender around for years, waiting on his chance to be the head dog. Finally gets his chance and does absolutely everything the wrong way.
Treats his staff like garbage Treats his players like garbage Treats parents like garbage Skips practices Skips school Etc…….
Never seen a coach less interested in winning. Stands on sideline no headset, arms crossed watching the play clock. Freaking guy won’t even join the team pre/post game during the prayer.
principle needs to get on the phone with every school board member and get their support and hold the super feet to the fire to end this nonsense.

I’m hoping the school board recognizes how detrimental this is. He needs to go. After week 9 his overall record at Winnfield is 19-18 and he is 3-15 vs teams that were .500 or above.

Saw their score early like vs. Jena and seemed close but look at them now and scores look like a completely different team.

We have to be averaging over 6 turnovers a game.

That is brutal lhsaamemes! Funny but brutal.
In all seriousness, what has happened to Winnfield? Probably about a decade ago or so they were maybe the best team and program in all of Cenla. I think 2011 or 2012 was when they went to the Dome but they were good for about 3 or 4 years there then they just disappeared. They've missed the playoffs more than they've made the playoffs in the last 10 years and that's hard to do during the split. There's got to be more going on than just the coach. They weren't very good before that guy got there either.

Pyles last season was 16. Then Lyn Bankston took over. Awesome guy, amazing softball coach, but wasn’t a good head football coach. He didn’t have much talent, but also didn’t bring in any new coordinators. Watson took over in 20.
What separates Bankston and Watson is the kids even though they lost loved Bankston. Community really liked him. He didn’t win, and that was tough, but he still worked hard and worked in the community. He resigned after 19.
No one at all likes Watson. He can’t get along with kids, parents, or the community.

Felt like we had better team, but not that night. Coordinators left after that year, one pushed out by super at the time. Pyles was left with a shell of a staff and a few lean years of talent. Bankston wasn’t offered much help either. Had either been afforded the hiring opportunities Watson has been given by his superintendent buddy, they would have been more successful. May have had couple down years but would have built back up. When central office started making hiring/firing, support staff decisions things went south. Winnfield has a very long rich history in football. Maybe not bunch of titles but you could always expect to play a team that would come at you, give everything they had win or lose. We don’t even do that anymore. Sad

Karma can be a b!tch, but with that said I’d like to see Winnfield return to its former glory. Eliminating competition isn’t the answer, out working and out coaching with the talent winnfield usually has should be the answer.

I was really hoping to get a Many-Winnfield matchup in the Dome, but Kinder was the better team that night and again in the Superdome win over Many. That was a fun year.

I’ve always believed if we played that game 10 times, Winnfield wins 7 or maybe even 8 of them but that night Kinder played a nearly flawless game and their offensive scheme neutralized a lot of our defensive speed and aggression.
The key to the game was that Kinder’s defense played the game of their lives that night and really held us in check.
They turned around and played another outstanding game the next week against Many in the Dome.
If there is such a thing as a team of destiny, Kinder was it that year. Don’t be surprised if Bret has Jennings in the Dome soon.

I lost count of the times our offense put us in bad situations and the defense bailed us out to keep us in the game. Seemed like they stayed on field most of the night.

I appreciate that.
That’s a two way street though.
Two weeks earlier we played a cartoonishly fast Carver team and we were struggling to stop them at half.
In the second half the offense must have run 40 plays, converted several 3rd and 4th downs and just simply didn’t let Carver have the ball.
That was the only time in 3 years that somebody had an offense faster than our defense.
