Ruston will play anyone, anywhere. Look at their schedule the last few years. You will not see them playing Delhi Charter!

Just waiting on location to be announced still. Am thinking it'll be at Ruston this year, but we'll see. Game will be on 09/20.

How does Stephenville compare to North Shore, Ducanville, DeSoto, and South OakCliff. I was able to watch them in state championship games this year, and was just wandering how they compare. Those state championship games were the real deal.

How does Stephenville compare to North Shore, Ducanville, DeSoto, and South OakCliff. I was able to watch them in state championship games this year, and was just wandering how they compare. Those state championship games were the real deal. Not even close. Northshore, Duncanville & DeSoto are 6A powerhouses, while SOC is a 5A power and all 4 would annihilate Stephenville. Stephenville is a perennial 4A power that has won 6 state championship, the last 2 coming in 2012 & 2021, while Longview is the same in 5A. Classification wise, 4A in Texas is pretty much equivalent to 3A in Louisiana since Texas 1A is six man football and their 5 classes run from 2A to 6A. Ruston certainly not taking an easy path with either of these 2 storied Texas programs, so kudos to the Bearcats for some big-time out of state matchups.

Now that's how you put together a schedule, you know those games didn't just fall in Baugh's lap. This schedule took some effort. Take note West Monroe, that's why you will be playing for the 3rd-4th spot in 2-5A

Baugh tapping into his time as a coach in Texas to put this schedule together. The game with Midland Legacy (former Midland Lee High) will be at Choctaw Stadium, which is the former Globe Life Park in Arlington. I can remember those years Midland Lee had in 1998, 1999 and 2000 (three straight state titles) and the 1999 national championship. If memory serves me, didn't they play West Monroe during that time for an epic game? In fact, here is the video of the game. West Monroe vs. Midland Lee (2000)

Some new staff on offense to go along with inexperience at the QB spot, they can't load up the schedule yet. The program needs to build some mojo first. Huntington is solid, road games @catholic, Neville and N Desoto. That's a defending State Champ and State runner up. With defending Champ Ruston at the end. Neville may very well be the best team on that schedule the way some of you talk. That's a really solid schedule IMO, hopefully they fill Week 4 with a good opponent. I'm prepared for the Delhi Charter jokes, kind of deserve it.

Huntington is not close to solid. This is a cupcake the Rebels scheduled. Neville has beat Huntington by a combined 138-32 the past 3 seasons.

there was no work involved with scheduling Neville and Ruston. North DeSoto and Catholic are solid but if WM has any challenge from Huntington and Scotlandville it will be a long season. Still what jumps out as lazy is the open date when you have a school like St James asking for a game the same date...

The Bearcats return Brantley, Hayes, Joran Parker, Sam Nations among others on offense and Peyton Bell, Zheric Hill and Aidan Anding on defense. Those are the top guys. All three of those guys on defense have all-state potential. I also think Alex Hunt, who is the nephew of former LSU national champion Jack Hunt, will be a big-time player at safety. He got some solid playing time this past season as a sopre. Obviously, the major issues will be replacing LB Jadon Mayfield, who was the all-state MVP and a three-time all-state selection, as well as the two big DEs Geordan Guidry and Ahmad Breaux. As crazy as it is it to say, because I think Mayfield is the most-decorated player in Ruston HS history, I think they will be fine at LB with Hill leading the way. He was almost as productive as Mayfield the past two years and should have a monster year stepping out of his shadow. I'm also curious if Lander Smith, who has started at fullback the past two years, will get some defensive snaps. Fabian Stringfellow wasn't technically a starter at safety, but he played just as much as the other guys and I expect him to have a big senior season. The Class of 2027 has several studs who will be pushing for playing time next year, and one name to remember is Jayden Anding, the younger brother of Aidan Anding, who should play at either safety or corner. I also think junior RB Jeremiah Freeman is too good of an athlete to keep off the field, and since both Jet Hayes and Dylone Brooks return in the backfield, he might be used somewhere in the defensive secondary. Offensively, it starts with the running game with Brantley, Hayes and Brooks. That will continue to be the bread and butter of this team. They need to find a competent tight end who can replace the combination of Zhy Scott's receiving and Guidry/Breaux's blocking. But the passing game will have weapons led by Joran Parker and 6-7 sopre superstar Ahmad Hudson. Seniors Darius James and Gavin Jolivette will have the opportunity to earn starting spots at WR, but like I said earlier, this sopre class has some great athletes who will be looking to get on the field next season.

I really liked those two DE's they had on JV. Both were long and athletic. Not there physically yet, but definitely should be with how Ruston develops their players. Also, they have a tall TE who was a sopre who will bulk up and be very good as well. About 6'4 or so kid. Don't know his name but can run well and has good hands. Hudson should take that next step and be like Green was at Zachary very soon. Saw him in basketball twice and he is the specimen for sure to dominate for three years like Green did. Ruston isn't going anywhere.

I don't know enough about the JV team to know what's coming on the DL, but I do think Payton Bell and Ka'varion Key are going to have big senior seasons. Hudson is an absolute freak on the basketball court. Way more polished and advanced in that sport than he was in football, though I still believe he has the talent to be a top-50 national player in both sports. I watched him score 24 points and grab 23 rebounds in a dominant performance against Pineville, which has a really good basketball team (20-4 overall, #4 in D-1 Select) and a 6-6 senior center that Hudson manhandled.

They will be very good duo next season. #12 is a very good linebacker as well and will be more than serviceable replacing Mayfield. Only cover with Ruston is depth along the defensive front. But, then again I thought it would rear its head let season as well. Well, that never happened. Solid S&C. Secondary will be solid once again. OL will be looking for bodies. If they develop some they likely will have a repeat. Westgate will be the biggest obstacle.

Those two defensive ends will be seniors this year and are replacing two power 5 defensive ends that were three year starters. Mayfield was a three year starter at middle linebacker and a three time all state first team member. Nate Johnson was a three year starter as well at the rover position. I hope you’re right about the replacements but man those seniors made Baugh and Kyle Williams life easy the past three years. Special group and will be hard to replace and for the love a football, Baugh stop kicking on-sides every time on kickoff. Maybe he did that because he knew that his defense would stand the task. Oh and you mentioned the secondary. The secondary is good with a tremendous front seven, and yes the Cats had that last year.

I've seen them play multiple times. Long. Athletic. Just needed some reps and gain a few LBS. They will continue doing that of course. #12 is legit. He is a player. Not Mayfield but more than serviceable. The secondary may lose Johnson but Hunts boy is a talent. Coaching. You coach to create a program that just churns them out. They are doing that. With a lock down corner and leadership at all levels of the defense with a leader at QB who proved his merit in the playoffs (especially the second half of the title game) ruston will be fine. Their offense finds a few linemen the defenses job will be helluva lot easier as that offense will be top 5 in the state with all that talent.
