Coach Zach Smith has decided to resign from the head baseball coach position at RHS. He will stay on as a teacher for the remainder of the school year. No plan has been announced on who will replace him both this year and going forward.
Wish nothing but the best for Coach Smith.
With that said, who are some possible options for RHS to hire.

Daniel Best the current head baseball coach at Brandon ms is from Ruston and a Ruston high graduate. He's done a great job at Brandon. It would probably take the big bag to get him to leave Brandon.

I love it. His family is still in Ruston. Would love to get him back home. He started down on the coast and has done a tremendous job at every stop. He would be a “homerun” hire for sure! |

Another name that just hit the rumor mill around Ruston is Jordan Shaffer. He’s currently the pitching coach and new defensive coordinator at Cedar Creek. He was a coach at Benton and Parkway before moving to the Ruston area and played for Burroughs at both NSU and LA Tech. He’s young but could be an interesting hire. From what I’ve heard of him the kids love to play for him but he’s a straight to the point guy who doesn’t mess around on the field. It’ll be interesting to see if we go for a baseball only guy or one who will help on the football field as well.

You are either the same person who told me or there may be some legs to that name. What I’ve heard is that they want to go younger and hire someone long term. I’ve heard 3 different names that have applied. That name would make 4. Keep hearing that the hire should be soon. It’s been more than a few days since I’ve heard that so it makes me think whoever it is they are still coaching. Of the names, all four are still in the playoffs. |

I talked to a friend with some ties to CC to get some info on him, he says he hasn’t put in for an interview and is focused on their second round game. I don’t think CC will want to let go of him seeing how they just named him the DC as well. I don’t see Ruston reaching out to anyone who doesn’t apply but who knows, the next weeks should shed a little more light on everything. |
