I won't make any practices. I usually call a handful of Lafayette area coaches and get their reaction to the spring for the newspaper. Hoping that comes to fruition again.
I'm especially interested in your facts/opinions on St. Thomas More, Teurlings Catholic, Carencro, Southside, Lafayette Renaissance, Lafayette Christian, Opelousas, Cecilia, Northwest, Acadiana and Westgate.
STM - graduated a ton, two great CBs return
TC - Travis Gallien intrigues me, what's the status of the athletic program?
Carencro - new coach & Chantz Babineaux
Southside - new coach, new QB. alot hinges on the QB in the flexbone offense
LRCA - new kid on the block
LCA - what do the overall numbers look like?
Opelousas - Malveaux is a championship sprinter at QB
Cecilia - will they move B. Calais to QB & Diesel to RB?
Acadiana - one of the most consistent programs statewide
Northwest - can they repeat the success without J. Reese? Was impressed with their football players on the basketball team
Westgate - where should they be ranked overall? almost beat Ruston with Jaboree Antoine in his first game back on the field in several weeks. Will he play QB this year?

I can't speculate on anyone except Westgate, but I expect them to have a serious chance to make another appearance in the dome.
With a senior class consisting of Amari Simon, Dy'Traevous Lively, Bryant Leon, Davian Jackson, Tavias Gordon, and, of course, Jaboree Antoine, the Tigers will have impact players on both sides of the ball that can control the game.
The big question for me is how the team plays, especially at QB, with the departure of OC Derek Landry.

Not much to report on DeQuincy except workouts from what I’ve heard, haven’t really payed much attention since baseball is going on right now but DeQuincy should be a little more sound on offense and hopefully be as stout on defense as last although we lost a few key starters I think we’ll be fine, got a very weak schedule but I guess we’ll take wins anyway we can get them at this point, looking at it we should have atleast 6-7 wins but who knows! We’ll have a strong running game with LaVergne and possibly Hext running the ball as well to my understanding and maybe a couple others. Both back will be giving opposing defenses headaches.

I got a report from a Cecilia supporter: Ellis Stewart and Diesel Solari to split time at QB. Sonny Charpentier, former Teurlings Catholic head coach and AD, is now involved with the offense as either the coordinator or a high profile assistant.

Side note: Both Ellis Stewart and Diesel Solari played QB on a crucial scoring drive in the regular season win vs. Opelousas. Solari got knocked out of the game for a few plays but returned in time for the football to cross the goal-line.

Travis Gallien is no longer at Teurlings . Word is, he’s at LRC now.

I did get a chance to watch a Acadian Middle hoops play Madison Prep’a feeder school at the Cajun Dome. Acadian Middle has some grown men.

I'm going to try to make it out to a couple of practices in the Cenla area, particularly ASH, which begins next week.

We started spring practice yesterday as we are only going 7 days I believe just enough to reintroduce the offense and defense again to the team. May have the biggest freshman group I have seen at Calvary in the 9 years I have been associated with the team. Just having a intersquad scrimmage instead of playing another team this year. Just seeing everyone out there yesterday plus visiting with Coach Brad Davis and Coach Joe Sloan of LSU was enough to make it a good first day. Looking forward to the season.

I havent heard much coming out of Jefferson Parish yet. I think we have alot of talent, but I am not a fan of our coaching staff. Karr will always be Karr. Easton lost a lot and might struggle early. Good thing is that they have an easy beginning of their schedule before they run the gauntlet. Iam hearing that East St. John might be pretty good this year.

Talent everywhere in the Area; we have an opportunity to turn it around with all the uncertainty at LCA, and TC; but LAF REN is going to be another headache. I like the hire, but it seems we have had some pretty good coaches the last 5 years and no one stays. If we can keep some of our talent, and have a coach who stays a few years we will be fine.

Oakdale- New HC, but most of the assistant staff still remains. Will have a bunch of new starters, especially on the lines. Definitely will look like a new team. But, they will be ready to play.
Pine Prairie- Also a new HC. Energy is picking up from where it was in the fall…people are excited. Much more manageable nondistrict schedule. They have decent athletes. I might be a bit biased, but still lol.

Opelousas, arguably the favorite to win NSD2, returns a lot of a talented roster. We have Acadiana for the spring game which will be a good early test and then moving towards a season that should be layered with really great games. Not much change, an offense that knows it’s identity and one of the most physical defenses in the state. I’m interested is seeing how the o line performs against Acadiana, we had a couple key graduates up front.

Clean, James Simon may be one of the best backs I have seen. He has some decisions to make , runs the ball well and catches the ball just as well. Great kid, down to earth and just puts his nose to the grindstone.

Great kid, down to earth and just puts his nose to the grindstone. This is one of the deepest RB classes I can ever remember in Louisiana, and we've had some really good ones. Berry, Simon and Lindsey are all extremely talented backs and will be an embarrassment of riches if they all three end up in Baton Rouge. But there are really, really good backs way beneath those top three as well.

Has Spring Practice become a thing of the past for most schools? I know that you get an extra week or extra days of some kind if you don't have Spring ball but it seems like a valuable time to assess what you have coming back for a lot of teams. Is the extra week worth it in August when it's 102 degrees?
I have heard of ASH scrimmaging Northwood of Shreveport and also that ASH is having an intersquad scrimmage another day. I've also heard that Pineville is having a scrimmage but not sure if it's between themselves or if there is an opponent. Other than that I've heard nothing about Spring practice anywhere in Central Louisiana by anyone.
