So, Springfield High Baseball is off to a great 4-0 start. We have played and beaten the following teams by scores of: - Jewel Sumner: 4-2 - Ascension Christian: 5-2 - Albany: 6-3 - Franklinton: 2-0
I've also noticed that in the most recent Power Rankings, created by Brad, Springfield is ranked at the top of both the 2A Non-Select and 2A Combined lists.
What are everyone else's thoughts about this? I myself was not expecting much to this season for our young team, but so far they are beginning to turn my head a bit.

Getting runs against them low So they must have good pitching. Hard to Rank a lot of Teams right now. So many only play 1a, b and c schools until district so it's hard to judge when some teams have played no one of strength yet but maybe 1'or 2 teams

Nice. It is great to see them doing well. The combined records of the teams they beat is 12-18, let's get a few more games under their belts before we give them one of 12 first place trophies. I know some kids there, so I want them to be successful.

The early part of the season is not a good time to determine who the top teams are because of all the tournaments. The lineups teams use during the tournaments are different than what we will see during district and the playoffs. Teams play 3-4 games per tournament and use 3-4 different lineups. Some coaches also use tournaments to give their backups and JV players chances to get some varsity action. Nevertheless your team is off to a good and its good for a young team to have success early in the season to gain confidence. Springfield plays in a pretty good District, which as you know includes the defending State Champions, so keep an eye on how they perform in those games. i'll be glad when basketball is completely done so everybody will have their entire roster. That's one of the reasons District is more telling than the early part of the season.

You guys are correct, it is way too early to be making predictions on any teams. I just thought it was different because we have mostly been playing teams of higher classification. Speaking of such, we lost to Ponchatoula by a score of 5-7, it was a great game. The LHSAA website has the order wrong, as the Ponchatoula game was after the Franklinton game.
