Well baseball playoffs are right around the corner. Looking at 1A, Division IV teams, who is everyones favorite, and throw out some underdogs to watch out for.

Have to put St. John in the mix. Swept Ascension Catholic this past week which isn't easy.

Never seen St. John before, but I know Ascension area has some good teams. I have Central Catholic taking the whole thing. Hanson, and Cedar Creek has a great shot also. Sleeper teams are Covenant Christian, full of seniors, pitching might hurt them though. Vermillion Catholic, always a good team. Houma Christian has a good young team, but have a few injuries.

Oak Grove has to be among the favorites in 1A. They are really the only public school in 1A now that has a great baseball tradition. And they have been in the State Finals 2 years in a row. Logansport could get to Sulphur too. LaSalle and Delhi Charter have done well in their districts. Sleepers could be Grand Lake and Oberlin from District 4-1A. It will also be interesting to see how Kentwood fares as they are a very young program, in only their 2nd year and their 1st playoff action i think.

I got the chance to watch Oak grove at the beginning of the season. They struggled in that tournament. They lost to the Houma Christian team I picked as a sleeper in the playoffs. From the look of their record, looks like they turned it around though. You gave me your picks for 1A, whats your picks for 1A Div IV?? lol

Central Catholic has a very good 1-2 punch on the mound. Unfortunately, class 1A doesn't do best 2 of 3 in the playoffs like the other classes, so anything can happen. CC plays Jesuit tonight then finishes district against Ascension Episcopal.

Would love for 1A to go to best of 3 games. Would change things up quite a bit with a few teams.

They will be tough to best. Great pitching staff. I think they losing a lot of seniors this year.

We're losing several very good Sr's, but CC will find a way to replace them with some other quality players. Long tradition of good baseball dating back to the 70s. After about 6 state runner-up trophies, CC finally got their championship in 1999. When I played back in the late 80's/early 90s we had a 5-year streak of finishing no worse than the Semis. This team is also on a 5-year streak Semi's or better as well. We've had some quality pitchers over the years, but these 2 Sr. pitchers are the best 1-2 punch I've seen at CC. It would be nice to see this team get another championship.

Not many, if any 1A schools have enough pitching to make it through 3 game series.

St.John has a very solid 1-2 punch on the mound and great lineup 1-9 I can see them making it back to sulphur and challenging central catholic.

Been hearing a tremendous amount on this St John team from Plaquemine, also recorded nice win over hometown opponent Plaquemine High , nice 4A club as well, should be interesting to see where St John goes playoff wise

Both respectable ball clubs in every aspect but St John has been on a hot streak

All in all Central Catholic should handle their business on their side of the bracket , but eyes open for St John of Plaquemine on the other side looking as tough of an opponent as CC.

Thanks how would you see St. John faring against 2 seed cedar creek in a possible quarter final round game? Haven't seen Cedar Creek nor St John yet this year but I've researched both teams . In my opinion I think St John truly has the pull away advantage in the first two rounds, St John is a sleeper for sure.

Yes St. John is trying to get back to the semifinals since 2014 and I believe this young team will get back to sulphur this year with two very good pitchers.

Wow just stumbled across an interesting stat. St John has 10 run ruled every team in District 6 1A atkeast once.. impressive knowing the amount of talent in that district as well.

With the offensive power and their great pitching and defense I just don't see any challenge ahead for the eagles.

Cedar Creek should give them a run for their money but I think some rankings are a tad mistaken , for example St John reportedly beat CHPC and Ascension Catholic twice , both are at least 2 or more spots ahead of them .

Don't know much about either team but I hear HC has a stud pitcher that gave CCA a run for their money last week. Never know what can happen.

Word around town was that St Johns ace was reportedly hurt and is out for the season , reliable source told me and it surprisingly hasn't hurt the pitching staff one bit... also the offense has been outrageous from what I see.
