Some very unique things in this game. 1) Kentwood's offense lays an egg. They look slow and simple. Obviously VC's Defense is to be complimented. 2) A Defensive player wins the MVP for Vermilion Cath. (not unheard of but it's kinda rare) 2) V.C. wins it's first state title. 4) 16 points were the least amount of total points in a Prep Classic in which both teams scored. (Tied with Wossman 9 vs Curtis 7 - 1988)

(Tied with Wossman 9 vs Curtis 7 - 1988) Our offense wasn't good that year, we hung our hat on defense, which our d shut them down, I believe they averaged 50+ points that year, in the playoffs for sure & one mistake cost us the game (punter fielded the snap with his knee on the ground) deep in our own territory. But our d played a better game in comparison to the type of offense they brought into the game. But it in all that was a good win for them hats off

Saw VC against St Eds in the semis. Thy had a punishing ground game.
Joe Simon was a tough little back, and sadly, died in a car accident soon after he graduated.
Kentwood had a damn good defense to shut VC down, but give VC defense credit for keeping VC in the game Til Kentwood made a mistake.

He was a few miles from home when he crashed. Sad

Kentwood's D was awesome. LB flow was as good as I've seen. Really thought the VC run game was gonna do more. Love these kinda games...
