I don't know if anyone else saw this. But during the Class C state championship game between Elizabeth and Simpson, KPLC sports anchor Mike Gaither angered a lot of people from Elizabeth and Simpson. He was criticizing the piss poor defense played by the two teams over Twitter, which seems to have offended a lot of parents and fans. He said to "give me a glove, this is sad" and stuff like that. Now, I don't think he should have said it but I agree that it was a terrible game defensively. People called him out over the give me a glove comment but he was a baseball player in college in Florida. Do you think he was in the right for stating the obvious assessment of the game or do you think he should have bit his tongue?

It offends the sissies! Lol

No. These are high school kids (Im assuming, but with class B and C schools, they usually have 6th-8th graders playing sometimes). Some of these schools may only have 12 kids total to choose from. They can only play the kids who want to play and there are times when you must play kids who either arent very good or ready, but a bad player is better than having no player in the outfield. These kids are playing because they love the sport and just want to be there with their friends. Now if these were college players than yes, its free game. Complain all you want.

He definitely should be able to voice his opinion of the game, but there are classier ways of making your point. There's no reason to say a bunch 15-17 year old kids shouldn't be playing. If they weren't he wouldn't have a job covering them. If he's so great why is he covering high school sports instead playing in the majors? I guess he shouldn't have quit baseball when his 2 year stint at the junior college was over. It may not be too late Mike! Pick up that glove again and show us how good you are.

He has as much right to be critical of those kids as we do to be critical of him. Poor defense can be coached up, but class and integrity is another story. Total classless move on his part.

Most of these new fangled devices have a couple knobs. Those of you with sensitive ears also have the option of changing channel or turning it off. Just saying!

Mike Gaither is one the poorest sports caster out there. He gives every light TV time to the local High School teams. Does not surprise me. I no longer watch KPLC due to there local coverage.

I tell u what else is unwatchable is their "Touchdown Live" show. Those highlight segments are pitiful and sometimes they get the score wrong for the games they don't have highlights to show. I hardly watch it at all anymore. I watch the one on KATC 3 now and pick up an American Press for the scores from our area.

I used to to rush home so I could catch the highlight show now I won't even turn it on even if I missed the game. They get the scores wrong plus they are so so clueless as to what is going on. They will say something like he breaks a long run no one can catch him and they finally drag him down, and it's a 5 yard run lol.

Back when it was Sal and his bunch the show was good. Most of the time now it's hardly any coverage and if it is it is maybe 2 clips and sometimes they are saying one game and it's a whole other game that's airing

Thats what you get in a mid-size market like Lake Charles. Most of the time it will just be a stopping point on the way to a bigger tv market like New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Shreveport, etc. Its hard to keep around the good ones. Plus you have guys getting hired to be the sportscasters who have never even been to Louisiana before and are from God knows where in this country. Some times they adapt well like Luke Edwards and Mike Ciancolo at KALB in Alexandria but then you have the Mike Gaither's of the world. Brady Renard at KPLC isn't too bad either.

The best post game show you will find on TV or radio is the Scoreboard Show on 96.9 KZMZ in Alexandria. The station has about a 100 mile reach on it so you can listen to it and call in from pretty much anywhere in the state and even from parts of Mississippi and Texas. They have Cenla coaches come on the show and they call the coaches to talk about the games. They list as many scores from around the state as they can fit into the show, which is usually most of them. It's just an overall good show and they know their stuff and it really gets the fans involved from being able to call in and talk about their game

KPLC is what it is...a small market, cash strapped news outlet trying its best to produce a live sports show, which is no easy task. I applaud them for their effort. We shouldn't expect much there. Someone who played college baseball making fun of a Louisiana class C high school team would be about like Chris Berman and Mike Greenberg taking shots at KPLC anchors.

Like take over the old KJEF in Jennings or get a radio station around here doing it. Stations like Gator 99.5 are missing out by not doing games in the Lake Charles area. Like if Barbe or Sulphur or St. Louis or LaGrange travel out of the city that would get big listener numbers

It's not hard to get thru if u want to call in and talk about your team's game. Those guys are fun to talk to as well. They get every score in the State and people call in from all over. Even when i get home in Crowley it still comes in pretty clear so i know u can catch it in Basile if that's where your u live. If you have a smart phone the play store has FM Tuner apps that u can catch 96.9 on your phone.

There is really no one doing it big in this area and I have had great mentors in the field so I think it is something I might be able to do one day.

I meant I wish there were a station in South LA that also did it. You're right, they do a great job and are pretty up to date with a lot of teams from around the state.
