We suspect it happens in professional sports: teams tank games in order to secure higher draft picks in the following season. Do you think it happens at the high school level? I mean, teams of course try to make the playoffs and are happy to do so, but I wonder if after locking up a playoff spot have ever "lost" a game to try and secure a more favorable playoff schedule. Whether that is avoiding a certain team early on or even getting in the other half of the bracket. I would think not because I like to believe that these years are the last pure years of football that these kids will play. Not to mention that with all of the seeding factors that go into seeding the teams, it would be way difficult to plan that. Factoring in the opponent's sos as well as depending on what every other team does in terms of wins and losses.
