8-5A is doing this. we had a 7 game regular season where everyone played once, then this weekend, we're having a winner take all tournament with the top 4 teams out of 8.
i think we're doing it so that our teams can experience meaningful playoff baseball. the weak teams at the bottom of district make it almost impossible to have a top 32 power rating
any other districts doing this?

It’s my wish that tournaments would be done away with and every team you play on weekends, including district ball games, would be three game series. Do it like college and schedule a mid week game or two if you want, but to me...three game series is the way all baseball should be played regardless of class.

There's nothing wrong with how they do it now. Most districts have everybody play twice and some of the smaller districts play each other 3 times. And some do play each other once. Its up to the district's coaches as to how many times they play each other. There is no tournament or tie breaker needed since any team winning a district or tied for a district championship gets an automatic bid to the playoffs.

Tournaments are great to have but considering this thread is started by a fan of a district 8-5A school I just have to call it how I see it. This district is by far the worst district in 5A. Even if you run a tournament to determine a district champion, there is no guarantee that the winner would even be in the top 32. I mean no disrespect but that’s reality. IMO if you can’t get into the top 32 in the power rankings then you have no business in the playoffs l. I’m in favor of doing away with district champions automatically making the playoffs. The best 32 teams by power rankings should be the teams making the playoffs. Unfortunately that won’t be the case and a 32 seed team will get bumped out of the playoffs.

When every team in 5A can play every other team in 5A that might work. Of course that would require a 52 game schedule so that's not really a good idea. Having Districts makes scheduling easier. And since everybody can't play everybody District Champs get automatic bids and the Power Ratings determine who gets the wildcards. Makes perfect sense.

East Jeff if they win a few games this week will be top 32... My Owls have been top 32 the past few years, and even though we're rebuilding, we have the pitching to make any high seed squirm in a single game. John Ehret and Grace King have also been competitive recently.
