Anybody got the scoop on tonight’s scrimmage? Jordan will start and should. Defense will be B+. Dline A+. Get them a center and they'll be fine.

Boot, you are being way to generous. Both 1’s played tough defense all night until it came to the short yardage. Neville scored twice, Evangel didn’t score. In the quarter, Evangel scored 3 tds to Neville’s o tds. Two of the tds were a result of runs up the middle. Offensively, Evangel ran the ball well. Threw the ball fair, Neville had some missed tackles that led to big plays. Neville had trouble with the snaps all night. Neville had no “playmaker” per say but did have some nice runs and short passes. Evangel lived in Neville’s backfield. Now this was probably two good teams playing which exposed the others weaknesses. I look for both to improve, especially Neville.

I was looking forward to this scrimmage to see what type of team Evangel would have this upcoming season and was impressed by their defense. I presumed the defense would be ok this year after losing so many players from last year but was impressed by their ability to constantly disrupt Neville’s offense with penetration and quick tackles in open field. This years defense is not as physical as last years but from my perspective they are faster and react quicker. There are still some areas for improvement as Neville was able to make some good runs up the middle for decent yardage and dump swing passes that netted first downs. Overall though, the defense surpassed my expectations due to such a high turnover. The offense is again slow to find it’s footing but I attribute that mainly to the QB just recently intergrating into the practice schedulle, and coaches using a scrimmage to try different plays and schemes. Throughought the scrimmage it seemed Evangel had Neville in control. I was not impressed with the officiating as I felt they left the QBs of both teams exposed to unneccessary hits for a scrimmage game. Neville’s center/QB exchange had problems the entire scrimmage and Evangel was able to hit Neville’s QB at full speed. Twice during the scrimmage (once during 1st team scrimmage and again during the 12 minute “game” quarter) the backup QB had to come in as a replacement. Overall, I was impressed with Evangel’s showing against a quality opponent and have high hopes for a good season. I also don’t put too much into this as it was just a scrimmage and both teams will improve immensely as the season progresses, but with the play of the defense I feel Evangel will again have a legitimate chance at the dome this year.

Both Neville starting LBs was out. I'd think they wanted to expose alot on offense. Seem as they was working on passing game. Overall both team young men played exceptional well if you in the trenches. Im sure we will see a completely different team in the jam next week.

83 & boot-I was at thje scrimmage also..talking with the Neville people, they told me the 2 starting linebackers and startin gcenter were held out along with several backups. I counted app 12 snaps over the qbhead and many more on the ground and just plain bad snaps. both teams will improve as the season goes on. EVA just lacks depth all around an dthat could be a big fator as the year progress but overall team speed is an asset. nhs just need team work to correct their mistakes.. as for as qb, brister worked with 2nd team and the new guy from wm was held to alimit of action like they a saving him for later. Overall, when he was in , he looked good and had speed
