I believe Sunset was one of the schools that consolidated to form Beau Chene, but I'm not sure when that happened. I want to say the late 80s...

The graduating class of 1992 was the last class at Sunset High. They did close and form Beau Chene High. Sunset was 5-5 if my memory serves me right. I could be wrong but I'm sure they were around .500. They always had a tough scrappy team.

Only had 2 playoff appearances. 1976 and 1977.
1976 - Had a bye, then beat Kinder 14-0 in the regionals and lost to W.O. Boston in the Quarterfinals. 1977 - Beat Ville Platte 20-13 in the 1st round, then lost to St Louis 13-8 in the regionals.
several old video’s of Sunset on YouTube.

Beau Chene was formed from Sunset, Leonville, and Arnaudville High Schools. "Beautiful Oak" High School opened in August 1991. Northwest and North Central were formed around the same time.

I hate consolidation. It always makes me sad when a school shuts down.

Northwest opened the same time as Beau Chene. North Central opened up in 1990-91, after that they lost their entire district as longtime rival and top 28 participants Upper Pointe Coupee of Batchelor was sent to Pointe Coupee Central and Arnauldville/Leonville went to Beau Chene.

I hate consolidation. It always makes me sad when a school shuts down. Biggest mistake was building Pointe Coupee Central. Was cheaper to keep UPC and Rosenwald open with Livonia. Now that's sad and PCC is closed (3 years now). Rumor that the Batchelor location maybe back as a Secondary school again...well we'll see

They always had a tough scrappy team. 1991 was the last graduating class We (Many HS) played Sunset in the second round of the basketball playoffs in 1989. They were pretty good. We ended up winning state. Beat them something like 68-62 to the best of my memory.
