This is a great match up for both teams in non district. North vs South so really hard to gauge them against each other with zero common opponents.24-21 game last year so they were pretty even. I went back and forth on this one in the pickems. What does everybody think?

I went back and forth on this one in the pickems. What does everybody think? It should be another close one. Plaquemine doesn't have the explosive offense they've had the past 2 seasons. They're still very talented, but they tend to grind it out rather than score on big plays. Their defense is ok, but they give up too many points. I know St. Thomas More is good, but the Green Devils should never have given up 59 points. Ouachita was able to put up some points on 5A Sulphur and 4A Carencro, but Plaquemine should be better than both of those schools. They did play Neville tough which is a point in their favor. I think Coach Distefano will make some adjustments on defense this week and with the game being in Plaquemine, I'd give the edge to the Green Devils. Of course, I like to think I'm objective when it comes to schools not named St. John, but PHS is my hometown public school so there may be a bit of "homer-ism" in that pick.

Plaquemine is long fast and athletic. The QB is back completely healthy had a scary injury last year. Where they are weak at this year and normally strong is the DLine. This game sounds like a pick em based on what I’ve seen from the board on Ouachita. STM beat up on Plaquemine pretty bad fwiw. Tempo

Tempo Im sure Logic could give a better breakdown of Ouachita than me but they seem to be about what they usually are physically. Lots of team speed and athleticism and pretty good size. They will always have some players that catch your eye from A physical staindpoint. But can they go on the road and pull off the big win. These are the situations where Ouachita has been hard to trust over the years. They are likely to go play a great game and then miss an extra point or fumble in the last seconds to cost themselves. I picked plaquemine but I wouldn't mind missing that one for a Lions win

Rb Dylan Roberts had 252 yards and 3 tds last week against carencro . He didn’t play in last years game . The O line is big. Defensive Line isn’t as deep as last year. The one thing I’ve noticed the last few weeks is the number of dropped balls by the receivers . The sopre Qb Shaw is solid

I picked plaquemine but I wouldn't mind missing that one for a Lions win Neville, WM, Ouachita, Ruston. Main schools i follow. Ouachita this year is solid up front on Offensive Line sans right guard. He gets beat one on one often. Nevilles big #96 wore him out inside. The rest of the line is huge and very talented. The new TE is a great receiving threat who gets off the line quick and has great hands catching the ball--#17; He isnt a great blocker at all but is serviceable in certain situations. Their running game is very solid behind 3 very good backs--Roberts, Lewis, and Richard (Ricard?). Lewis is very fast and likely the fastest player in Monroe/WM going by his track performances--either he or Hamburg of WM. Their receivers are not great, but serviceable. Brown has not impressed aa much as i thought he would so far this season. They really have no deep threat at all at receiver and it stalls their explosive ability as it did against Neville. Neville left him on an island and Shaw and he could not hook up once deep until Neville played a soft zone at the end on the last drive of the game by Ouachita. He ran a deep post and caught it then fumbled it in Ouachita fashion. Had he broke through the attempted tackle he sails into the endzone. The other two receivers are meh, but not bad either. The QB Shaw is a Sopre and has promise. He isnt elite by any means, but he has both the obvious size and skill set to be great if developed correctly. After seeing him a few times i can better critique his game so far. His ability to read the defense is very good for a lid his age. He doesnt have one route he locks in on and the offensive staff runs their offense off his ability to check to another receiver quickly. He keeps his eyes downfield and makes good decisions when not under duress in finding the open man. He struggles with accuracy at times both short on long but doesnt throw picks. His intermediate ball is better than his deep throws. Not the strongest arm. Their defense is very fast and athletic. Their defense only has one weakness from what i have seen--right side of the defensive line--#93 and #10. Neville exploited it with lots od Power Designed plays pulling guards and H-Back in motion presnap to outnumber and then block it up. All of their huge plays against Ouachita in that game came off that side. They ran Power all night in situations and did it perfectly. If you want to move the ball on them, line up in big sets, Double Tights or two H-backs and overload that side. Zone blocking doesnt work. I expect plaquemine to do this and wear them down. Ouachita's linebackers are very good and physical. Love contact and tackle with an intent to hurt. Glass is the best in our area from sideline to sideline but a little undersized to be considered a big time prospect as a Junior. Their secondary is the best ive seen out there since 1999-2000. The sopre transfer (yep they got them too) has them in proper alignment every play and dont get fooled at all in coverage i see. You have to make plays with athletes outside to beat them in their secondary. Depth is an issue for them defensively and offensively. Any major injuries at any position not running back they are in deep doo do. Ill write up on Neville and WM before Friday. I picked Neville but if WM comes out with two tights and runs the triple option like theh did against Noxubee in the second hald they will win by a comfortable margin. Neville is built to stop spead not power teams. They will struggle to handle the depth on O-Line of WM seemingly substitutiting linemen endlessly and the two big backs in #1 and #8. I like #14 also a LOT. Kid should be seeing the field more. Also #20 from JV team is special. I have no idea why they dont get more reps in varisty. Neville better strap on their gear tight on defense because that Ruston game coupd be duplicated as Ruston ran the same style and beat them up.

Now he’s “not elite”. What changed; the loss to Neville, or the quality of your initial appraisal? One the Neville/WM comments, I’m curious-tell me: just how many linemen will they bring in?? If they had them, don’t you think they would have brought them in against Neville in the Jamboree to move the ball? This is the same team whose coach went for 2 a couple of years ago to seal the win, so obviously jamborees are important to them. With the injuries being talked about up front, I think the Rebels May struggle to find some continuity along the offensive front. I remember you saying the triple option was back to stay at Rebel Stadium, and I guess that’s what you meant. The Mississippi team seemed to struggle with it, judging by the numbers.

When Ruston and WM come to town you will see the Ouachita i know. Still scratching my head how they lost to Neville. Oh, yea, outcoached. They can out athlete teams that dont have the horses but those that do get them every time with any coaching. Will be 2nd round and toast. Teams they cant beat listed below: West Monroe Ruston Zachary Destrehan Walker Acadiana John Ehret Teams Ruston cant beat: Acadiana West Monroe Destrehan Zachary Walker John Ehret Teams West Monroe cant beat: Destrehan Zachary That should take the air out of the season for everyone that is a fan of those teams. Sorry to burst the bubble. *edit* to add to Ruston and Ouachita, both, East Ascension.

Nah, we will keep our air until they do it on the field. WM has won games they weren't supposed to win as well as lost games they were supposed to loose.

West Monroe can beat anyone. Ouachita would beat Walker Ive seen West Monroe play and Zachary and Desty. They arent beating either. Period. They dont have the speed to stop their receiving corps. They dont have the offense to keep up. They arent better than last year except possibly defensively. I watch these teams regularly. Zachary best a better WM team last year on the road and that QB is too damn fast for their linebackers and secondary. He literally broke run after big run. Zacharys receiving corp is fast as f*** and ran through Universitys DBs at times. I know it; they know it; the coaches know it; we know it. What the hell is wrong with yall? Yall act like WM got better from last year. Offense is nothing like last year and the defense still struggles with the big play. As for Desty their offense would score at least 21 points at least. Nevilles putrid offense got 14 on the road. Just logic. Emery and those receivers would be the best offense WM will hace faced since LW. They sell out to Emery Torbor and Brown and Reider will eat them alive. Just be patient. This stuff gets tiring. My god the same Zachary team beat them last year on THE ROAD with Slade Bolden and the best offensive line they had since 2009 or 10. Anything can happen, sure, but by god it would take an act of God for them to beat either Desty or Zachary down south.

I bring substance. #22 and #19 would be eaten alive by Zachary and Desty. #4 cant play man, but is great in zone. Who is guarding the 6'4 tight end from Destrehan? Who? WM gets eaten alove in the screen game and Desty runs that regularly with the best tailback in the nation. If yall happen to get them at home in the semis i give WM a shot, but down there? Hell no. Lol. As for Zachary? Just a big hell no. They were down only 8 to University with 5 minutes to go the other night before being called for a horrible PI call that you will see on the replay. They didnt hold up. No one in LA can. WM wouldnt even score but possibly 1 TD while getting ran off the field. Catholic returns their entire team that had the greatest run in recent memory last season in the playoffs beating Evangel and Curtis back to back. Those three teams are far and away ahead of anyone in my area. I am not being ugly. Saying it how it is. Been watching this stuff for years. And no one listens.

I laughed last season in the semis. That was worth laughing at. Lol. What did Ouachita do last year to lose by only 1 to WM? And in that game ouachita has two fumbles that should have been returned for TD's as clear as a blue sky in film. You'd have to be Stevie Wonder to miss it. Ouachita sucked last year. Covington whipped their backside. Was Covington better than WM? You dont understand how this works do you? Covington was beating them 28-7 at halftime last year. Lol. Your logic sucks. And only laughing will be me at the end of this season when you go back to your hole kiddo. Lol. Damn you do realize YOU LOST TO ZACHARY LAST YEAR lolololol. You did not win. You lost. Lol

Did u even see the Covington Ouachita game? Ouachita was inside the 20 once and the 10 3 x and came away with no points . Covington scored 14 off of Ouachita turnovers . Ouachita even gave up a kick off return in the second half . Other than that Covington didn’t move the ball at all in the second half. Ouachita had a chance to tie it at the buzzer by the pass was over thrown in the end zone

They refuse to travel to expose their team to hostile environments along with coaches and players experiencing the travel and variables aasociated with it. Ouachita has traveled twice down south and won. They did last year to carencro. Im not a fan of Fitz but he is wise for doing this as his team will be ho hum come playoff tome having traveled so much. Ouachita's only problem is depth, period. They dont have the depth on defense up front to last against the top teams. Hell, even Neville had more depth. That isnt good.
